Episode 34

The Next Generation - Tom Krüger - German & English Version

A special edition in both German and English, hosted by my friend and former guest, Robert Bogs.

Tom Krüger, founder and CEO of TJK Solutions, talks about transforming a small German lakeside community into one of Europe’s most forward-thinking LoRaWAN regions. At just 20 years old, Tom has turned his early curiosity about wireless weather sensors into a growing company delivering LoRaWAN networks for environmental monitoring, smart villages, and disaster resilience. In this episode, he shares how local collaboration, open-source innovation, and cost-effective engineering can bring LoRa-powered infrastructure to life—even in small municipalities.

  • How a classroom science project using LoRa temperature and pH sensors inspired the founding of TJK Solutions in Brandenburg, Germany
  • The path from DIY weather stations to commercial LoRaWAN deployments for water authorities and tourism operators
  • How LoRaWAN networks are being used to monitor water levels, beach conditions, and environmental data across the region
  • Building an off-grid Meshtastic emergency network to maintain communication during blackouts, connecting nine disaster-response sites with solar-powered LoRa routers
  • Collaboration between local government, the fire brigade, and private partners to deploy resilient, low-cost IoT infrastructure
  • The business case for municipalities: reducing costs, improving transparency, and creating a foundation for smart city growth
  • Why combining LoRaWAN for telemetry and LoRa mesh for citizen communication creates a powerful hybrid model for local resilience
  • Insights into the Smart Village project, integrating LoRaWAN into lighting control, school air monitoring, and park management
  • Tom’s view on LoRaWAN’s future across Europe and how small innovators can drive adoption through user-focused problem solving and partnerships

[DE] And now, let's dig into the conversation with Tom Kruger and Robert Boggs.

Speaker:

[EN] Hello, and welcome. Tom is here today, one of the youngest Lorwan enthusiasts I've ever met.

Speaker:

[DE] Hallo und herzlich willkommen.

Speaker:

[DE] Tom heute hier, einer der jüngsten Lorrain-Enthusiasten,

Speaker:

[DE] die ich bis jetzt kennenlernen durfte.

Speaker:

[DE] Und Tom, vielleicht erzählst du uns zwei, drei Sätze dazu.

Speaker:

[EN] And Tom, how are you doing?

Speaker:

[EN] Maybe you can tell us a few things about it. How did you even get into it?

Speaker:

[DE] Wie bist du überhaupt dazu gekommen?

Speaker:

[DE] Und du hast in so jungen Jahren schon ein Business.

Speaker:

[DE] Wie lief das denn?

Speaker:

[DE] Ja, das ist eigentlich eine spannende Frage.

Speaker:

[EN] Yes, that's actually an exciting question. Hello from me too.

Speaker:

[DE] Hallo von mir auch.

Speaker:

[EN] I'm Tom, I'm now 20 years old, and I live in Brandenburg, Germany.

Speaker:

[DE] und ich wohne in Brandenburg in Deutschland.

Speaker:

[DE] Genau, und ich bin tatsächlich in der siebten, achten Klasse

Speaker:

[DE] mit dem Thema Lorrain in Verbindung gekommen.

Speaker:

[EN] And actually via a YouTube channel called AEQ Web, and that's an Austrian.

Speaker:

[DE] Und tatsächlich über einen YouTube-Channel,

Speaker:

[DE] der heißt AEQ Web, und das ist ein Österreicher.

Speaker:

[DE] Und der hat damals mit Lorrain angefangen

Speaker:

[DE] und die erste Laufbahn.

Speaker:

[DE] Und das fand ich so spannend.

Speaker:

[EN] And I found that so exciting. And then he had a direct project with weather stations.

Speaker:

[DE] Und dann hat er direkt ein Projekt mit Wetterstationen gehabt.

Speaker:

[EN] And I found that very impressive and also fascinating that you can send things over long distances without a lot of energy.

Speaker:

[DE] Und das fand ich sehr beeindruckend und auch faszinierend,

Speaker:

[DE] dass man Sachen über weite Distanz ohne viel Energie senden kann.

Speaker:

[DE] Und irgendwie bin ich dann da so reingerutscht.

Speaker:

[DE] Und da ich eine coole Schule hatte,

Speaker:

[DE] ist es dann so weitergegangen mit dem naturwissenschaftlichen Unterricht.

Speaker:

[EN] And that's where it went on.

Speaker:

[DE] Und so ging es dann immer weiter, ja.

Speaker:

[DE] Womit hast du denn angefangen?

Speaker:

[EN] When did you start? What was your first LoRa project?

Speaker:

[DE] Was war denn dein erstes Lora-Projekt?

Speaker:

[EN] Oh, I think my first LoRa project was these two Heltec boards.

Speaker:

[DE] waren diese zwei Helltech-Boards.

Speaker:

[DE] Und ich habe dann zwei Temperaturwerte übertragen

Speaker:

[EN] And I then transferred two temperature values from such a BME280 and the other showed it on this little OLED display.

Speaker:

[DE] von so einem BME 280.

Speaker:

[DE] Und das andere hat es auf diesem kleinen OLED-Display dann angezeigt.

Speaker:

[DE] Und das war erst mal Lora, noch nicht Lora-Warn.

Speaker:

[DE] Aber das war dann ganz schnell der nächste Step.

Speaker:

[EN] And that's where it started.

Speaker:

[DE] Und das ging dann los damit.

Speaker:

[DE] Und dann hatte ich, glaube ich,

Speaker:

[DE] dieses erste kleine Tragino-Gateway da,

Speaker:

[DE] dieses LR8, dieses kleine weiße Gerät.

Speaker:

[EN] And yes, that's how it started.

Speaker:

[DE] Und ja, damit ging es dann auch los.

Speaker:

[DE] Und dann war da, glaube ich,

Speaker:

[DE] das erste Lora-Warn-Projekt unser Mellensee.

Speaker:

[DE] Da hatten wir dann in der 8., 9. Klasse,

Speaker:

[EN] There we had in the 8th, 9th grade.

Speaker:

[DE] Biologie.

Speaker:

[EN] And the topic was, yes, what happens to our lakes, what do the nutrients and temperatures do?

Speaker:

[DE] Und das Thema war, ja, was passiert mit unseren Seen?

Speaker:

[DE] Was macht die Nährstoffe und Temperaturen?

Speaker:

[EN] And then I put a little LoRaWarn temperature and pH sensor in the lake and that's how it started.

Speaker:

[DE] Und da habe ich dann so einen kleinen Lora-Warn-Temperatur-

Speaker:

[DE] und PR-Sensor im See eingebuddelt.

Speaker:

[DE] Und damit ging es dann los, ja.

Speaker:

[EN] Yes, the sports are created and then I was already in the middle of the topic.

Speaker:

[DE] Der Sports erstellt.

Speaker:

[DE] Und dann war ich schon mittendrin in dem Thema.

Speaker:

[EN] Now I would like to transition, so the transition from I'm doing this for a school project and I have TJK Solutions.

Speaker:

[DE] Jetzt würde ich gerne die Transition,

Speaker:

[DE] also die Transition von,

Speaker:

[DE] ich mache das für ein Schulprojekt

Speaker:

[DE] und ich habe TJK Solutions.

Speaker:

[DE] Wie kam das zusammen?

Speaker:

[DE] Das war es.

Speaker:

[EN] That was a good question.

Speaker:

[DE] Das ist eine gute Frage.

Speaker:

[DE] Also es hat eigentlich damit angefangen,

Speaker:

[EN] It actually started with me wanting to do even more at our Mellensee during my high school years.

Speaker:

[DE] dass in der Abiturzeit dann ich irgendwie

Speaker:

[DE] noch mehr wollte an unserem Mellensee.

Speaker:

[EN] We then wanted to monitor the water level and that only worked at the sluice, because the construction was just not going very well.

Speaker:

[DE] Wir wollten dann den Wasserstand überwachen.

Speaker:

[DE] Und das ging dann nur an der Schleuse,

Speaker:

[DE] weil das baulich einfach anders nicht ganz gut ging.

Speaker:

[EN] And for that we contacted an authority, the Water and Ground Association here, to ask, hey, can we build something there somewhere?

Speaker:

[DE] Und dazu sind wir mit einer Behörde,

Speaker:

[DE] mit dem Wasser- und Bodenverband hier,

Speaker:

[DE] in Kontakt getreten,

Speaker:

[DE] um zu fragen, hey, können wir da irgendwo was anbauen?

Speaker:

[EN] Is that okay? Do you have problems with it?

Speaker:

[DE] Ist das in Ordnung? Habt ihr Probleme damit?

Speaker:

[EN] They thought everything was fine here and they unfortunately found it so exciting that they said, hey, Tom, we need to go up there.

Speaker:

[DE] Die fanden jetzt alles ganz in Ordnung.

Speaker:

[DE] Und die fanden es dann aber leider so, so spannend,

Speaker:

[DE] dass sie gesagt haben,

Speaker:

[DE] hey Tom, wir brauchen Hochwasserschutz.

Speaker:

[EN] We have high water protection, we need more of it.

Speaker:

[DE] Wir brauchen mehr davon.

Speaker:

[EN] We have other devices that cost 8,000 euros per piece and that's not going to work.

Speaker:

[DE] Wir haben andere Geräte,

Speaker:

[DE] die kosten 8000 Euro pro Stück.

Speaker:

[DE] Und das geht nicht.

Speaker:

[EN] We need a lot of them.

Speaker:

[DE] Wir brauchen viele.

Speaker:

[EN] And can you do something about it?

Speaker:

[DE] Und kannst du da was machen?

Speaker:

[DE] Meinte ich, ja, bestimmt.

Speaker:

[EN] I said, yes, definitely.

Speaker:

[DE] Also es ist möglich.

Speaker:

[EN] So it's possible.

Speaker:

[DE] Mein Vater ist auch irgendwie selbstständiger Unternehmer

Speaker:

[EN] My father is also somehow a self-employed entrepreneur and that's why it was a bit of a family thing, the company.

Speaker:

[DE] und dadurch lag das schon ein bisschen in der Familie,

Speaker:

[DE] die Förmlichkeit.

Speaker:

[EN] And I needed, they needed a bill and then I said, well, I'll just open a business quickly, which is a bit of a quick thing.

Speaker:

[DE] Und die brauchten dann halt eine Rechnung.

Speaker:

[DE] Und dann habe ich gesagt,

Speaker:

[DE] dann mache ich halt schnell ein Gewerbe auf.

Speaker:

[DE] Was halt schnell ein bisschen,

Speaker:

[DE] da gehört ja viel dazu,

Speaker:

[EN] It's a lot of work, all the pre-treatment, what do you have to do?

Speaker:

[DE] die ganzen Vorherberatungen,

Speaker:

[DE] was muss man machen?

Speaker:

[DE] Aber ich würde sagen,

Speaker:

[EN] But I said, well, I can do it.

Speaker:

[DE] in der Zeit innerhalb von ein, zwei Monaten

Speaker:

[DE] habe ich das dann gegründet.

Speaker:

[DE] Und dann ging da das erste kommerzielle

Speaker:

[DE] LoRaWAN-Projekt los mit Hochwasserschutz.

Speaker:

[EN] What happened in the meantime?

Speaker:

[DE] Was ist in der Zwischenzeit passiert?

Speaker:

[EN] What are you doing there?

Speaker:

[EN] So with the high water protection, we have now monitored a whole channel from lake 1 to the Spree.

Speaker:

[DE] einen ganzen Kanal vom See 1 bis in die Spree abgemonitort.

Speaker:

[EN] And in the past it was just like that, that they drove there and had to write on a note how high the water was and it wasn't that economical or modern in time.

Speaker:

[DE] Und früher war es halt so,

Speaker:

[DE] dass die da immer hingefahren sind

Speaker:

[DE] und mussten aufschreiben auf dem Zettel,

Speaker:

[DE] wie hoch der Wasserstand ist.

Speaker:

[DE] Und das war nicht so ganz wirtschaftlich.

Speaker:

[DE] Oder modern zeitgemäß.

Speaker:

[DE] Ja, und jetzt ging es weiter mit unserem See.

Speaker:

[EN] Yes.

Speaker:

[EN] And now it went like this.

Speaker:

[EN] And then it went on with our lake.

Speaker:

[DE] Jetzt ging es dann mit Wetterstationen

Speaker:

[EN] Then it went with weather stations at the beach baths, information displays, such a small welcome screen where people come in and see how warm the water is.

Speaker:

[DE] an den Strandbädern, Informations-Displays,

Speaker:

[DE] so ein kleiner Welcome-Screen,

Speaker:

[DE] wo die Leute reinkommen und sehen,

Speaker:

[DE] wie warm ist das Wasser?

Speaker:

[DE] Und so eine ganzen schönen Kleinigkeiten.

Speaker:

[EN] And all those little things.

Speaker:

[DE] Und dann auf die Webseite der Strandbäder.

Speaker:

[EN] And then on the website of the beach baths, that's exactly what it went on with.

Speaker:

[DE] Genau damit ging es weiter.

Speaker:

[DE] Und alles sowas.

Speaker:

[EN] And all that stuff and then all the classics that you were just dealing with LoRaWan.

Speaker:

[DE] Und dann die ganzen Klassiker,

Speaker:

[DE] was man sich halt beschäftigt mit LoRaWAN.

Speaker:

[DE] Da ging es so was mit,

Speaker:

[EN] Then it went with the farmers to measure the temperature of the soil, the moisture and everything that you do.

Speaker:

[DE] bei den Landwirtschaften

Speaker:

[DE] halt die Bodentemperatur zu messen,

Speaker:

[DE] die Feuchtigkeit,

Speaker:

[DE] und, und, und.

Speaker:

[DE] Alles, was man dann irgendwie so macht.

Speaker:

[EN] And now it's like that.

Speaker:

[EN] And now I would say the biggest project we have now is a small smart city village, smart village project.

Speaker:

[DE] Und jetzt würde ich sagen,

Speaker:

[DE] das größte Projekt,

Speaker:

[DE] wir haben jetzt so ein kleines Smart City Village,

Speaker:

[DE] Smart Village Projekt.

Speaker:

[DE] Und da geht es jetzt los mit,

Speaker:

[EN] And that's where it's going now with street lighting, smart media wing and everything that goes with it.

Speaker:

[DE] ja, Straßenbeleuchtung,

Speaker:

[DE] Smart Media Wing

Speaker:

[DE] und alles, was halt dazu gehört.

Speaker:

[DE] Und so rutscht man irgendwie auf einmal,

Speaker:

[EN] And so you somehow slide in all of a sudden, if you know the right people, and somehow it went from LoRaWan to MeshTastic.

Speaker:

[DE] wenn man die richtigen Leute kennt,

Speaker:

[DE] überall mit rein.

Speaker:

[DE] Und irgendwie ging es dann auch von LoRaWAN

Speaker:

[DE] weiter zu Mesh-Testing, ja.

Speaker:

[DE] Bevor wir da reintauchen,

Speaker:

[EN] Before we dive in there, how is it with you in the place?

Speaker:

[DE] wie ist denn bei euch im Ort?

Speaker:

[DE] Du hast gesagt, es ist sehr ländlich.

Speaker:

[EN] You said it's very rural.

Speaker:

[DE] Wie ist denn die Annahme von euch?

Speaker:

[EN] How is the reception of the technology there?

Speaker:

[DE] Wie ist denn die Annahme von der Technologie dort?

Speaker:

[DE] Also sagen die Leute, cool,

Speaker:

[EN] So people say cool.

Speaker:

[EN] Build it up there, put a gateway up there, in any case.

Speaker:

[DE] bau das da auf,

Speaker:

[DE] stell ein Gateway oben hin,

Speaker:

[DE] auf jeden Fall.

Speaker:

[EN] Or how does the community take it on site?

Speaker:

[DE] Oder wie nimmt die Community bei euch vor Ort

Speaker:

[DE] das wahr, was ihr dort macht?

Speaker:

[EN] That's what you're doing there.

Speaker:

[EN] Yes, that's actually exciting.

Speaker:

[DE] Ja, das ist eigentlich auch spannend.

Speaker:

[EN] We're very close to Berlin.

Speaker:

[DE] Wir sind ja ganz nah an Berlin dran.

Speaker:

[DE] Also ich würde sagen,

Speaker:

[EN] So I would say I would still call it Speckgürtel.

Speaker:

[DE] ich würde es als Speckgürtel noch bezeichnen.

Speaker:

[EN] That's about 20, 30 kilometers south.

Speaker:

[DE] Das sind ungefähr 20, 30 Kilometer südlich.

Speaker:

[EN] And yes, it's just a bit exciting.

Speaker:

[DE] Und ja, es ist halt ein bisschen spannend.

Speaker:

[DE] Erstmal, es gibt noch nicht so eine Riesen-Community,

Speaker:

[EN] First of all, there's not such a huge community yet, I'll say.

Speaker:

[DE] sage ich mal.

Speaker:

[EN] People don't really know anything about it yet.

Speaker:

[DE] Die Leute wissen eigentlich

Speaker:

[DE] noch nicht so wirklich was davon.

Speaker:

[EN] Except they have now had contact with us and wanted to transfer things.

Speaker:

[DE] Außer die sind jetzt,

Speaker:

[DE] weil sie Kontakt mit uns gehabt haben

Speaker:

[DE] und wollten Sachen übertragen.

Speaker:

[EN] But yeah, that's it.

Speaker:

[DE] Aber ich würde sagen,

Speaker:

[EN] But I would say we have now built up three gateways in the municipality on the Mellensee.

Speaker:

[DE] wir haben jetzt ja drei Gateways aufgebaut

Speaker:

[DE] in der Kommune am Mellensee.

Speaker:

[DE] Und das funktioniert ganz gut,

Speaker:

[EN] And that works quite well because we can also work very well with the municipality.

Speaker:

[DE] weil wir auch ganz gut

Speaker:

[DE] mit der Kommune zusammenarbeiten können.

Speaker:

[DE] Und die finden es auch spannend.

Speaker:

[EN] And they also find it exciting.

Speaker:

[DE] Aber aufgrund von Geldlagen und Haushaltssachen

Speaker:

[EN] But due to money and household matters, it has not yet progressed so far with the LoRaWan topic.

Speaker:

[DE] ist es noch nicht so weit vorangeschritten

Speaker:

[DE] mit dem Thema LoRaWAN.

Speaker:

[DE] Aber der Support ist da.

Speaker:

[EN] But the support is there.

Speaker:

[DE] Also es ist keine Technologiefeindlichkeit,

Speaker:

[EN] So it's not technology hostility, but how would you describe it?

Speaker:

[DE] sondern wie würdest du das beschreiben?

Speaker:

[DE] Nein, überhaupt nicht.

Speaker:

[EN] No, not at all.

Speaker:

[DE] Ich würde es sogar ganz im Gegenteil sagen.

Speaker:

[EN] I would even say the opposite.

Speaker:

[DE] Die Leute finden es cool.

Speaker:

[EN] People think it's cool.

Speaker:

[DE] Ich glaube, das kommt auch durch

Speaker:

[EN] I think it's also because of my young age that I bring this new inspiration with me and say, hey, look, we now have this and we don't have to plug in a SIM card anymore and can now transfer things and display and switch.

Speaker:

[DE] vielleicht mein junges Alter,

Speaker:

[DE] dass ich diese neuen Inspirationen mitbringe

Speaker:

[DE] und sage, hey, guck mal,

Speaker:

[DE] wir haben jetzt das

Speaker:

[DE] und wir müssen nicht mehr klassisch

Speaker:

[DE] irgendwo eine SIM-Karte reinstecken

Speaker:

[DE] und können jetzt Sachen übertragen

Speaker:

[DE] und anzeigen und schalten.

Speaker:

[DE] Und das finden die, glaube ich, schon ganz cool,

Speaker:

[EN] And I think they think that's pretty cool because it's kind of something new.

Speaker:

[DE] weil es irgendwie auch was Neues ist.

Speaker:

[DE] Aber wir sind, würde ich sagen,

Speaker:

[EN] But we are, I would say, the population is already very open to the topic and also grateful.

Speaker:

[DE] die Bevölkerung ist schon sehr offen

Speaker:

[DE] für das Thema und auch dankbar.

Speaker:

[DE] Dankbar und offen.

Speaker:

[EN] Grateful and open, just like your family.

Speaker:

[DE] Genau wie deine Familie.

Speaker:

[DE] Kannst du uns ein bisschen Hintergrund geben?

Speaker:

[EN] Can you give us a little background?

Speaker:

[DE] Weil ich weiß,

Speaker:

[EN] Because I know you have a special family situation.

Speaker:

[DE] ihr habt eine spezielle Familiensituation,

Speaker:

[DE] worüber wir dann auch

Speaker:

[EN] What we would then come to the next LoRa application about.

Speaker:

[DE] zu der nächsten LoRa-Anwendung kommen würden.

Speaker:

[EN] How did that happen?

Speaker:

[DE] Wie ist das denn passiert,

Speaker:

[DE] dass ihr in der Familie quasi gesagt habt,

Speaker:

[EN] That you basically said in the family, we now need something new.

Speaker:

[DE] wir brauchen jetzt noch was Neues?

Speaker:

[DE] Ja.

Speaker:

[EN] Yes.

Speaker:

[DE] Richtung Meschtastic, denke ich gerade.

Speaker:

[EN] In the direction of Meshtastic, I think.

Speaker:

[DE] Das ist auch ein bisschen spannend.

Speaker:

[EN] That is also a bit exciting.

Speaker:

[DE] Das hat damit zugeführt,

Speaker:

[EN] That led to the fact that two years ago my uncle was elected mayor.

Speaker:

[DE] dass vor zwei Jahren

Speaker:

[DE] mein Onkel zum Bürgermeister gewählt worden ist

Speaker:

[DE] und wir so quasi politisch irgendwie da mit reingehaut sind

Speaker:

[EN] And we are so politically somehow in touch with that.

Speaker:

[DE] und durch die ansteigenden weltlichen Krisen und so

Speaker:

[EN] And through the rising global crises and things like that, it has come to the point that we have said we have to cooperate.

Speaker:

[DE] ist es dann dazu gekommen,

Speaker:

[DE] dass wir da auch gesagt haben,

Speaker:

[DE] wir müssen zusammenarbeiten.

Speaker:

[EN] It is now also going to be about that.

Speaker:

[DE] Und ja, meine Familie wohnt fast alle in Mellensee

Speaker:

[EN] have to work together. And yes, my family almost all live in Mellensee and in the surrounding area and

Speaker:

[DE] und in der Umgebung.

Speaker:

[DE] Und so sind wir da, glaube ich,

Speaker:

[DE] ganz gut mit der Kommune zusammen,

Speaker:

[DE] wenn man direkt da, sage ich mal,

Speaker:

[DE] an der Quelle sitzt.

Speaker:

[DE] Du und dein Vater,

Speaker:

[DE] ihr seid Teil einer Organisation.

Speaker:

[EN] so I think we are quite good with the municipality when you are directly there, I would say,

Speaker:

[DE] Wo engagiert ihr euch denn beide?

Speaker:

[DE] Ja, vielleicht sollte man erst mal sagen,

Speaker:

[DE] mein Vater ist auch Funk-Amateur.

Speaker:

[DE] Er hat bis Frühjahr ganz viel gemacht

Speaker:

[EN] at the source. You and your father, you are part of an organization. Where do you both get involved?

Speaker:

[DE] und ist dann jetzt irgendwie auch wieder reaktiviert worden

Speaker:

[DE] durch mein Machen und Tun.

Speaker:

[DE] Und ja,

Speaker:

[DE] ich glaube,

Speaker:

[DE] das ist ein sehr guter Weg,

Speaker:

[EN] Yes, maybe you should first say that my father is also a radio amateur. He did a lot of things in the past

Speaker:

[DE] dass wir da zusammenarbeiten.

Speaker:

[DE] Ich glaube,

Speaker:

[DE] das ist ein sehr guter Weg,

Speaker:

[DE] dass wir zusammenarbeiten.

Speaker:

[DE] Ich glaube,

Speaker:

[EN] and has now somehow been reactivated again by my doing and doing. And yes,

Speaker:

[DE] das ist ein sehr guter Weg,

Speaker:

[DE] dass wir zusammenarbeiten.

Speaker:

[DE] Ich glaube,

Speaker:

[DE] das ist ein sehr guter Weg,

Speaker:

[DE] dass wir zusammenarbeiten.

Speaker:

[EN] the doing and doing can also be found in the fire department. We are active in such a

Speaker:

[DE] Ich glaube,

Speaker:

[DE] das ist ein sehr guter Weg,

Speaker:

[DE] dass wir zusammenarbeiten.

Speaker:

[DE] Ich glaube,

Speaker:

[DE] das ist ein sehr guter Weg,

Speaker:

[EN] special unit called Information and Communication, IOK. And there our job is to

Speaker:

[DE] dass wir zusammenarbeiten.

Speaker:

[DE] Und ja,

Speaker:

[DE] das Machen und Tun findet sich auch

Speaker:

[DE] in der Feuerwehr wieder.

Speaker:

[DE] Da sind wir nämlich aktiv

Speaker:

[DE] in so einer speziellen Einheit.

Speaker:

[DE] Die nennt sich

Speaker:

[EN] ensure that the fire department can always communicate, speak, write, everything that has to do with it.

Speaker:

[DE] Information und Kommunikation,

Speaker:

[DE] IOK.

Speaker:

[DE] Und dort ist unser Job,

Speaker:

[DE] dafür zu sorgen,

Speaker:

[DE] dass die Feuerwehr immer

Speaker:

[DE] kommunizieren kann,

Speaker:

[DE] sprechen,

Speaker:

[EN] And so we are also involved in municipal security on a voluntary basis.

Speaker:

[DE] schreiben,

Speaker:

[DE] alles,

Speaker:

[DE] was damit zu tun hat.

Speaker:

[DE] Und so sind wir ehrenamtlich

Speaker:

[EN] So now we have a young entrepreneur with LoRaWAN. We have a dad who used to work at the amateur

Speaker:

[DE] auch da,

Speaker:

[DE] haben wir einen jungen Unternehmer mit LoRaWAN,

Speaker:

[DE] wir haben einen Papa, der früher bei den Amateurfunkern war

Speaker:

[EN] phone company and we have the

Speaker:

[DE] und wir haben den Onkel, richtig, der jetzt Bürgermeister geworden ist.

Speaker:

[EN] young entrepreneur with LoRaWAN. We have a dad who used to work at the amateur phone company and we have the

Speaker:

[DE] Und was habt ihr, wie war die Problemstellung?

Speaker:

[EN] Why did you come together and said we are now doing a project with LoRa?

Speaker:

[DE] Warum seid ihr zusammengekommen und gesagt,

Speaker:

[DE] wir machen jetzt ein Projekt mit LoRa?

Speaker:

[EN] Yes, with LoRa is right to me. LoRaWAN didn't hit it at first,

Speaker:

[DE] Ja, mit LoRa ist nämlich richtig.

Speaker:

[DE] LoRaWAN hat es erstmal nicht getroffen,

Speaker:

[EN] because we came to the topic of mixed testing, because our, yes, the country of Brandenburg said,

Speaker:

[DE] denn wir sind auf das Thema Misch-Testik dann gekommen,

Speaker:

[DE] weil unser, ja, das Land Brandenburg hat gesagt,

Speaker:

[EN] hey, we have funding for disaster prevention. You now have to make sure that your

Speaker:

[DE] hey, wir haben Fördermittel für einen Katastrophenschutz.

Speaker:

[DE] Ihr müsst jetzt dafür sorgen, dass eure Bevölkerung

Speaker:

[EN] population is 1% of it in a, yes, multi-purpose hospital or anywhere else can be accommodated.

Speaker:

[DE] ein Prozent davon in einer, ja, Mehrzweckheiler

Speaker:

[DE] oder woanders untergebracht werden kann und versorgt wird.

Speaker:

[EN] And there are a few conditions, including communication, and there were a lot of things.

Speaker:

[DE] Und da gibt es ein paar Bedingungen, unter anderem auch Kommunikation.

Speaker:

[DE] Und da gab es viele Sachen.

Speaker:

[EN] There was suddenly Starlink for the Internet and I don't know what else. But that didn't quite

Speaker:

[DE] Da gab es zum einen Starlink für Internet und was weiß ich nicht alles.

Speaker:

[DE] Aber das hat nicht ganz ausgereicht, sage ich mal.

Speaker:

[EN] work out, I'll tell you. Nothing was thought to the end. Because we have, Mellensee is relatively

Speaker:

[DE] Da wurde nichts zu Ende gedacht,

Speaker:

[DE] denn wir haben, Mellensee ist relativ groß

Speaker:

[EN] large and there is a lot of forest in between and wide-ranging. And if now someone relatively from

Speaker:

[DE] und viel Wald dazwischen und weitläufig.

Speaker:

[DE] Und wenn jetzt jemand relativ,

Speaker:

[DE] von ganz weit weg von einem Ort, von einer Kommune dahin muss,

Speaker:

[EN] far away, from a place, from a community, has to go there, to this point, this disaster protection point,

Speaker:

[DE] zu diesem Punkt, diesem Katastrophenschutzpunkt,

Speaker:

[EN] if we now have a camp, then we have to go there. And if now someone has to go there, then we have to go there,

Speaker:

[DE] wenn wir jetzt eine Lage haben, wir haben keinen Strom mehr,

Speaker:

[EN] because we have no electricity and no more internet. Then this should be quasi the light tower,

Speaker:

[DE] haben kein Internet, dann soll das quasi der Leuchtturm sein,

Speaker:

[EN] which is then in the dark, is then a light mast and then it is then made sure that you can get there

Speaker:

[DE] der dann im Dunklen ist dann ein Lichtmast

Speaker:

[DE] und da wird dann dafür gesorgt, dass man dahin kommt

Speaker:

[DE] und Strom, Wasser bekommt.

Speaker:

[DE] Aber das ist halt ein Problem, weil man nicht alle dahin kommen können.

Speaker:

[EN] And that's why we looked for and found ways to network each of the parts of the place

Speaker:

[DE] Und deswegen haben wir Möglichkeiten gesucht und gefunden dann auch,

Speaker:

[DE] um die einzelnen Ortsteile quasi,

Speaker:

[EN] and make it communicable. Okay, what does that mean? What have you done specifically there?

Speaker:

[DE] auch zu vernetzen und kommunikationsfähig zu machen.

Speaker:

[DE] Okay, was heißt das? Was habt ihr konkret gemacht dort?

Speaker:

[DE] Also, wir haben dann mit dem Thema, mit dem Open-Source-Projekt MeshTastic angefangen.

Speaker:

[EN] We then started with the open source project MeshTastic, which I had a look at beforehand because it was also quite cool with the hardware that I already had and it was simply about saying that we can send small data packages, text messages to the catastrophe protection light tower and to the municipality via LoRa.

Speaker:

[DE] Das hatte ich vorher auch schon irgendwie mit im Blick gehabt,

Speaker:

[DE] weil es auch ganz cool war mit der Hardware, die ich schon hatte.

Speaker:

[DE] Und darum ging es einfach, dass wir sagen können,

Speaker:

[DE] wir können über LoRa kleine Datenpakete, Textnachrichten

Speaker:

[DE] an den Katastrophenschutz-Leuchtturm und an die Kommune senden, wenn alles ausfällt.

Speaker:

[EN] If the power goes out, the power goes out, the Internet goes out and nothing works anymore, then the possibility should still exist that we have an autonomous, independent network to inform the citizens, to lead the fire brigade and to make everything else safe.

Speaker:

[DE] Wenn Strom ausfällt, Strom aus, Internet ausfällt und nichts mehr geht,

Speaker:

[DE] dann soll die Möglichkeit trotzdem weiterhin bestehen,

Speaker:

[DE] dass wir ein autarkes, unabhängiges Netz haben,

Speaker:

[DE] um die Bürger zu informieren, um die Feuerwehr zu leiten

Speaker:

[DE] und alles Weitere sicher zu machen,

Speaker:

[EN] So that communication, which is really important in such a case of security or crisis, that it works, that it is guaranteed.

Speaker:

[DE] so dass die Kommunikation, was ja in so einem Sicherheitsfall

Speaker:

[DE] oder Krisenfall wirklich wichtig ist, dass da es funktioniert,

Speaker:

[DE] dass es gewährleistet ist.

Speaker:

[EN] Why actually?

Speaker:

[DE] Warum denn eigentlich?

Speaker:

[DE] Also ich sage jetzt mal, morgen fällt bei uns hier Strom aus, ja?

Speaker:

[EN] So I'll just say, tomorrow we're running out of electricity here.

Speaker:

[EN] Yes.

Speaker:

[DE] Und wir wohnen ja auch im Dorf.

Speaker:

[EN] In the village.

Speaker:

[DE] Und da muss ich jetzt kommunizieren können.

Speaker:

[EN] And then I have to be able to communicate now.

Speaker:

[DE] Brauche ich nicht viel eher Wasserversorgung und Wärme und all das?

Speaker:

[EN] Don't I need a lot more water supply and heat and all that?

Speaker:

[DE] Also warum ist das ein wichtiger Teil davon?

Speaker:

[DE] Ja, das denkt man wahrscheinlich im ersten Fall.

Speaker:

[EN] Yes, you probably think that in the first case, but mainly it is the communication for our municipality and fire brigade first, that they can implement all of this, that they can make sure that we have water again, we have electricity again or we have water and electricity in a certain place, that we can also inform the citizens.

Speaker:

Speaker:

[EN] Yes.

Speaker:

[EN] So that they can then go to a community house, to a kindergarten, to a school and can say, hey, I have a problem, I don't have water, I need electricity or something.

Speaker:

[DE] zu einer Kita, zu einer Schule und können sagen Hey, ich habe ein Problem.

Speaker:

[DE] Ich habe kein Wasser, ich brauche Strom oder irgendwas.

Speaker:

[EN] Then they can say, hey, they then write about this mesh testing device, about the network that we have connected there.

Speaker:

[DE] Dann können die sagen Hey,

Speaker:

[DE] die schreiben dann über dieses Mesh-Tastic-Gerät,

Speaker:

[DE] über das Netz, was wir da aufgespannt haben.

Speaker:

[EN] We need a citizen here, he needs this and that.

Speaker:

[DE] Wir brauchen, hier ist ein Bürger, der braucht das und das.

Speaker:

[EN] And the municipality can then say, or the mayor, yes, then they send it to the lighthouse and they will then get the information already.

Speaker:

[DE] Und die Kommune kann dann sagen oder der Bürgermeister,

Speaker:

[DE] ja, dann schicken sie den halt zum Leuchtturm

Speaker:

[DE] und die kriegen dann die Information schon mal.

Speaker:

[EN] And yes, so that the infrastructure and the communication can exist again and all needs, important needs are met.

Speaker:

[DE] Und ja, sodass einfach die Infrastruktur und die Kommunikation wieder bestehen kann

Speaker:

[DE] und alles Bedürfnisse, wichtige Bedürfnisse abgearbeitet werden können.

Speaker:

[EN] Yes.

Speaker:

[EN] You just said that this is for the case where there is no more electricity.

Speaker:

[DE] Das hast du gerade gesagt. Das ist ein wichtiger Punkt. Das ist ein wichtiger Punkt.

Speaker:

[DE] Das hast du gerade gesagt. Das ist ein wichtiger Punkt. Das ist ein wichtiger Punkt.

Speaker:

[DE] Das hast du gerade gesagt. Das ist für den Fall, wo es keinen Strom mehr gibt.

Speaker:

[EN] How does a network run completely independently when the power runs out?

Speaker:

[DE] Wie läuft denn ein Netzwerk komplett autark, wenn der Strom ausfällt?

Speaker:

[EN] Yes, when does the power run out?

Speaker:

[DE] Ja, wann fällt Strom aus?

Speaker:

[EN] Probably when the power plants or something is damaged or other things that we have a blackout case.

Speaker:

[DE] Wahrscheinlich dann, wenn die Kraftwerke oder irgendwas beschädigt werden

Speaker:

[DE] oder andere Sachen, dass wir einen Blackout-Fall haben.

Speaker:

[EN] Or it can also be enough that the internet is gone.

Speaker:

[DE] Oder es kann ja auch schon reichen, dass Internet wegfällt.

Speaker:

[EN] Then we are all problematic.

Speaker:

[DE] Dann sind wir ja auch alle schon problematisch.

Speaker:

[EN] And then there is actually electricity and the Internet.

Speaker:

[DE] Und da gibt es eigentlich Strom und Internet.

Speaker:

[EN] These are our biggest weaknesses.

Speaker:

[DE] Das sind unsere größten Schwachstellen.

Speaker:

[EN] We just have to bridge them.

Speaker:

[DE] Die müssen wir halt überbrücken.

Speaker:

[EN] And we have the Internet via this LoRa, via mesh testing.

Speaker:

[DE] Und das Internet haben wir über dieses LoRa, über Mesh-Tastic abgedeckt.

Speaker:

[EN] And that just works the way LoRa was, also at 8, 6, 8 MHz here with us in Europe.

Speaker:

[DE] Und das, was wir da machen, ist, dass wir das Internet, das ist das, was wir da machen.

Speaker:

[DE] Und das funkt halt so wie LoRa WAN auch auf 8, 6, 8 MHz hier bei uns in Europa.

Speaker:

[EN] Exactly.

Speaker:

[DE] Genau. Und damit können wir dann durch diese vielen kleinen Router

Speaker:

[EN] And with that we can then realize the coverage of the radio in each part of the local area through these many small routers.

Speaker:

[DE] in jedem Ortsteil schon mal die Funkabdeckung realisieren,

Speaker:

[EN] Secure the communication.

Speaker:

[DE] die Kommunikation sicherstellen.

Speaker:

[DE] Und der Strom läuft quasi zu diesen kleinen Knotenpunkten

Speaker:

[EN] And the electricity runs virtually to these small node points completely independently via solar and battery.

Speaker:

[DE] komplett autark über Solar und Batterie.

Speaker:

[EN] That means the devices are so autonomous that they can say, hey, we're running now.

Speaker:

[DE] Das heißt, die Geräte sind so autark, dass sie sagen können

Speaker:

[EN] Throughout the whole year.

Speaker:

[DE] Hey, wir laufen jetzt das ganze Jahr über, so ist es auch zurzeit,

Speaker:

[EN] That's how it is at the moment.

Speaker:

[DE] Hey, wir laufen jetzt das ganze Jahr über, so ist es auch zurzeit,

Speaker:

[EN] Always via autarky, via solar power or photovoltaic power and batteries.

Speaker:

[EN] I was wondering, why was the selection of MeshTastic and a low-energy radio system?

Speaker:

[DE] Ich dachte, warum war denn die Auswahl von Mesh-Tastic

Speaker:

[DE] und einem Niedrigenergiefunksystem?

Speaker:

[EN] I mean, it's in the name of a Wi-Fi that you're building now.

Speaker:

[DE] Ich meine, es steckt im Namen gegenüber jetzt einem WiFi, was ihr aufbaut.

Speaker:

[EN] Why didn't you build a local Internet or something, but made it that way?

Speaker:

[DE] Warum habt ihr nicht ein lokales Internet oder was gebaut, sondern das so gemacht?

Speaker:

[EN] Well, yes, you could of course have gone and said, we're building a radio network over 2.4 GHz.

Speaker:

[DE] Also ja, man hätte natürlich auch hingehen können und sagen,

Speaker:

[DE] wir bauen ein Richtfunknetzwerk über 2,4 Gigahertz

Speaker:

[EN] And then something like the Hemnet, which comes from an amateur radio station, which is also very popular.

Speaker:

[DE] und dann sowas wie das Hemnet, das aus dem Amateurfunk kommt, das ist ja auch sehr beliebt.

Speaker:

[EN] But in the end it was a question of cost, because we had no money.

Speaker:

[DE] Aber am Ende des Tages war es eine Kostenfrage, weil wir hatten kein Geld,

Speaker:

[DE] das Land hat kein Geld zur Verfügung gestellt und es musste aus kommunalen Mitteln

Speaker:

[EN] And it had to be financed from municipal funds.

Speaker:

[DE] quasi finanziert werden und das ging eigentlich auch nicht,

Speaker:

[EN] And that didn't work either, because we have a housing shortage and there is currently no funding for it.

Speaker:

[DE] weil wir einen Haushaltsstopp haben und es keine Fördermittel zurzeit dafür gibt.

Speaker:

[EN] And that's why we just used LoRa or MeshTastic and the hardware from the company Seed Studios.

Speaker:

[DE] Und deswegen haben wir halt einfach LoRa oder Mesh-Tastic benutzt

Speaker:

[DE] und die Hardware von der Firma Seed Studios, der SenseCap, genommen.

Speaker:

[EN] And they were much more expensive than if you had built an IP node everywhere with a switch, with an emergency power.

Speaker:

[DE] Und die waren halt deutlich preiswerter, als hätte man da jetzt...

Speaker:

[DE] überall einen IP-Knotenpunkt aufgebaut mit einem Switch, mit einer Notstrom.

Speaker:

[EN] There comes emergency power, so we just need electricity.

Speaker:

[DE] Da kommt Notstrom, also wir brauchen halt Strom, das ist viel energieuneffizienter, sage ich mal.

Speaker:

[EN] That's a lot more energy inefficient, I would say.

Speaker:

[EN] And that's just a huge effort.

Speaker:

[DE] Und das ist einfach ein Riesenaufwand.

Speaker:

[EN] In addition, in most cases, direct light communication is also necessary for IP communication.

Speaker:

[DE] Außerdem ist bei IP-Kommunikation auch eine direkte Sichtverbindung eigentlich nötig in den meisten Fällen.

Speaker:

[EN] And we didn't have that with LoRa.

Speaker:

[DE] Und das haben wir bei LoRaWan nicht ganz.

Speaker:

[EN] We had much better expansion conditions.

Speaker:

[DE] Da haben wir halt viel bessere Ausbreitungsbedingungen und halt der größte Vorteil, würde ich sagen,

Speaker:

[EN] And the biggest advantage, I would say, is not the cost and the energy problem.

Speaker:

[DE] die Kosten und die Energieproblematik nicht.

Speaker:

[EN] May I ask briefly, what did you pay for the whole project and how many people does it cover?

Speaker:

[DE] Darf ich mal kurz fragen, was habt ihr ungefähr bezahlt für das ganze Projekt und wie viele Menschen deckt das ab?

Speaker:

[EN] That's a good question.

Speaker:

[DE] Das ist eine gute Frage. Wer hat es erstmal bezahlt? Das habe ich bezahlt.

Speaker:

[EN] Who paid for it first?

Speaker:

[EN] I paid for it.

Speaker:

[EN] I sponsored it with my company first.

Speaker:

[DE] Ich habe das gesponsert mit meiner Firma erstmal.

Speaker:

[EN] That's hard to say.

Speaker:

[DE] Das kann man schwer sagen. Also ein so ein Router kostet nur, nur die Hardware ohne Antenne, ohne alles drum und dran ungefähr 80 Euro.

Speaker:

[EN] So a router like this only costs the hardware without an antenna, without anything else, about 80 euros.

Speaker:

[DE] Und mit allem drum und dran pro Standort ist man vielleicht, weiß ich nicht, zwischen 200, 300, 400 Euro.

Speaker:

[EN] And yes, it was only possible through a lot of sponsorings.

Speaker:

[DE] Und ja, es war auch nur möglich durch viele Sponsorings.

Speaker:

[EN] And then the electrician was told, hey, we'll provide you with the lift.

Speaker:

[DE] Und dann wurde gesagt, der Elektriker, ey, wir stellen euch die Hebebühne zur Verfügung und und und.

Speaker:

[EN] And, and, and.

Speaker:

[EN] That's how it works when everything works hand in hand.

Speaker:

[DE] So funktioniert es dann, wenn dann alles Hand in Hand funktioniert.

Speaker:

[EN] That's just nice then.

Speaker:

[DE] Das ist halt ganz nett dann.

Speaker:

[EN] Yes, and then you might be able to calculate.

Speaker:

[DE] Ja, und dann kann man sich ja vielleicht hochrechnen.

Speaker:

[EN] We then equipped nine locations with it.

Speaker:

[DE] Wir haben dann neun Standorte damit ausgestattet, haben noch zwei mobile Geräte, die wir aufstellen können, wenn mal irgendwo was ausfällt.

Speaker:

[EN] We also have two mobile devices that we can set up if something falls out somewhere.

Speaker:

[EN] And exactly the end devices that the users then use.

Speaker:

[DE] Und genau die Endgeräte, die dann die Nutzer nutzen, das muss man vielleicht auch nochmal kurz sagen.

Speaker:

[EN] You might have to say that again briefly.

Speaker:

[DE] Wir haben Verwaltungshelfer, die dann quasi geschult sind, das Netzwerk zu nutzen.

Speaker:

[EN] We have administrative assistants who are then basically trained to use the network, the devices.

Speaker:

[DE] Die Geräte, das sieht aus wie so ein kleines Blackberry und es ist so ein TdGo, Lidigo T-Deck Plus.

Speaker:

[EN] It looks like a little Blackberry.

Speaker:

[EN] And it's a TD Go, Lily Go T-Deck Plus.

Speaker:

[EN] That means we have a touchscreen, we have a keyboard on it and also a battery.

Speaker:

[DE] Das heißt, wir haben Touchscreen, wir haben Keyboard da drauf und auch Akku.

Speaker:

[EN] And they are just trained to use it.

Speaker:

[DE] Und die sind halt darauf geschult, das zu nutzen.

Speaker:

[EN] And we have 12, 14 of these devices.

Speaker:

[DE] Und diese Geräte, davon haben wir 12, 14 Stück.

Speaker:

[EN] And they were also sponsored by the local company, ETS Light.

Speaker:

[DE] Und die wurden auch vom lokalen Unternehmen gesponsert, ETS Light.

Speaker:

[EN] Yes, that's how it works.

Speaker:

[DE] Die, ja, so funktioniert es dann einfach.

Speaker:

[EN] Then simply our mayor.

Speaker:

[DE] Unser Bürgermeister, der Tobias Krüger, mein Onkel, ist da dann sehr direkt auf die Firmen zugegangen.

Speaker:

[EN] Tobias Krüger, my uncle, then went directly to the company.

Speaker:

[DE] Und wir haben einfach ganz gut mit denen zusammengearbeitet.

Speaker:

[EN] And we just worked very well with them.

Speaker:

[DE] Und die sind auch alle sehr offen und haben auch den Ernst der Lage, sage ich mal, verstanden und gesagt,

Speaker:

[EN] And they are all very open.

Speaker:

[EN] And I also understood the seriousness of the situation and said,

Speaker:

[DE] hier geht es jetzt nicht um eine Parkbank, die wohin gestellt werden muss,

Speaker:

[EN] it's not about a parking lot that needs to be set up,

Speaker:

[DE] sondern hier geht es halt um Leben und Tod im schlimmsten Falle.

Speaker:

[DE] Habt ihr das schon mal geprobt oder geübt, wie das Ganze funktioniert im Ernstfall?

Speaker:

[EN] Have you ever rehearsed or practiced how the whole thing works in earnest?

Speaker:

[EN] Or did you just set it up and then said, okay, that will work?

Speaker:

[DE] Oder habt ihr es einfach aufgebaut und dann gesagt, okay, das wird schon funktionieren?

Speaker:

[DE] Also eigentlich wurde es aufgebaut, weil wir gesagt haben, wir haben nämlich den Punkt einer Übung.

Speaker:

[EN] So actually it was set up because we said, we have the point of practice.

Speaker:

[DE] Und zwar hatten wir am 20., 27. Oktober oder September, ich weiß es gar nicht, ist schon ein bisschen her,

Speaker:

[EN] And we had on the 20th, 27th of October or September,

Speaker:

[EN] I don't know, it's been a little while now, there was a lot of stress.

Speaker:

[DE] da war auch viel Stress, eine ganz, ganz große Katastrophenschutzübung simuliert,

Speaker:

[EN] A very, very large disaster prevention exercise was simulated, carried out in the whole community at the Mellensee.

Speaker:

[DE] durchgeführt in der ganzen Gemeinde am Mellensee.

Speaker:

[EN] And there was the scenario, hey, we have a problem first.

Speaker:

[DE] Und da war halt das Szenario, hey, wir haben erstmal ein Problem.

Speaker:

[EN] Something happened, a natural event.

Speaker:

[DE] Es ist was passiert, ein Naturereignis.

Speaker:

[DE] Und das sorgt dafür, dass unsere Infrastruktur nach und nach wegbricht.

Speaker:

[EN] And that ensures that our infrastructure gradually breaks away.

Speaker:

[DE] Und ja, dann haben wir einfach mal getestet, was passiert, wenn man im Radhaus den Strom wegzieht?

Speaker:

[EN] What happens when the internet goes out?

Speaker:

[DE] Was passiert, wenn das Internet wegfällt?

Speaker:

[EN] And what happens when the fire brigade no longer has its radio?

Speaker:

[DE] Und was passiert, wenn die Feuerwehr ihr Funk auch nicht mehr hat?

Speaker:

[EN] And then at some point our own local mesh testing solution remained.

Speaker:

[DE] Und dann blieb halt irgendwann nur noch unsere eigene lokale Mesh-Testik-Lösung.

Speaker:

[EN] And that was then, yes, very exciting to try it out,

Speaker:

[DE] Und das war dann ja ganz spannend, das mal zu proben, wenn da irgendwie 400 Übungsbeteiligte dabei sind

Speaker:

[EN] when there are 400 exercise participants and all kinds of aid organizations from the fire brigade,

Speaker:

[DE] und alle möglichen Hilfsorganisationen von Feuerwehr über Rettungsdienst, THW, Rettungshunde und, und, und.

Speaker:

[EN] rescue service, THW, rescue dogs and, and, and.

Speaker:

[EN] That was very, very demanding, I would say.

Speaker:

[DE] War das schon sehr, sehr anspruchsvoll, würde ich sagen.

Speaker:

[EN] Do you feel ready for the future with it?

Speaker:

[DE] Fühlt ihr euch bereit für die Zukunft damit?

Speaker:

[EN] I would say we feel, well, you hear people saying,

Speaker:

[DE] Ich würde sagen, wir fühlen, also man hört ja dann so verlaubt, wenn die Leute sagen, boah, wenn irgendwas ist,

Speaker:

[EN] well, if something happens, then I'll go to the community at the Mellensee.

Speaker:

[DE] dann gehe ich in die Gemeinde am Mellensee, weil die gemerkt haben, hey, wir sind da sehr, sehr fortschrittlich.

Speaker:

[EN] Because they noticed, hey, we are very, very progressive there.

Speaker:

[EN] I would also say now, we are almost the only municipality in all of Brandenburg, all of Germany,

Speaker:

[DE] Ich würde auch mal jetzt behaupten, wir sind so fast die einzige Kommune in ganz Brandenburg, ganz Deutschland,

Speaker:

[DE] die so auf so eine Konzepte im Moment bauen.

Speaker:

[EN] that builds on such concepts at the moment.

Speaker:

[EN] And I'll just say it very self-evidently, it's been going pretty well for three, four months now.

Speaker:

[DE] Und ich sage jetzt einfach mal ganz selbstbewusst, das läuft jetzt seit drei, vier Monaten ziemlich gut.

Speaker:

[EN] And I would say we are ready, yes.

Speaker:

[DE] Und ich würde sagen, wir sind bereit, ja.

Speaker:

[DE] Okay, Tom, hast du noch zwei Sachen?

Speaker:

[EN] Okay. Tom, do you have any...

Speaker:

[EN] Two things.

Speaker:

[EN] First of all, a perspective from your point of view.

Speaker:

[DE] Nämlich erstens eine Perspektive aus deiner Sicht.

Speaker:

[EN] How do you take LoRaWAN?

Speaker:

[DE] Wie nimmst du LoRaWAN wahr?

Speaker:

[EN] Is that a business for the future, for the present?

Speaker:

[DE] Ist das ein Business für die Zukunft, für die Gegenwart?

Speaker:

[EN] What is happening from your point of view right now?

Speaker:

[DE] Also LoRaWAN ist, glaube ich, schon sehr spannend.

Speaker:

[EN] So LoRaWAN is, I think, very exciting.

Speaker:

[EN] So I think it definitely has a good future.

Speaker:

[DE] Also es hat, denke ich, auf jeden Fall gute Zukunft.

Speaker:

[EN] We also have very good, partly in the areas where we need it, also mobile telecommunications, 5G, LTE.

Speaker:

[DE] Wir haben natürlich auch sehr gutes, teilweise in den Bereichen, wo wir es brauchen, auch Mobilfunk, 5G, LTE.

Speaker:

[EN] That is also working very well in the meantime.

Speaker:

[DE] Das funktioniert auch mittlerweile sehr gut.

Speaker:

[EN] But for all the small areas, smart metering and where we just have a lot of energy,

Speaker:

[DE] Aber für die ganzen kleinen Bereiche, Smart Meteoring und wo wir einfach sehr energieeffizient sein wollen

Speaker:

[EN] we just want to be very energy efficient and want to implement a lot and send data,

Speaker:

[DE] und viel umsetzen und Daten senden wollen, erfassen, schalten, ist es, glaube ich, schon ganz cool.

Speaker:

[EN] capture and switch.

Speaker:

[EN] I think that's pretty cool.

Speaker:

[DE] Und ich höre jetzt von überall so nach und nach die Kommunen.

Speaker:

[EN] And I hear from everywhere now and then, the municipalities, they also find it very exciting.

Speaker:

[DE] Die finden es doch auch sehr spannend.

Speaker:

[DE] Wir können sparen, wir können optimieren, wir können Gefahren vielleicht sogar vorhersagen und vorbeugen.

Speaker:

[EN] We can save, we can optimize, we can perhaps even predict dangers and prevent them.

Speaker:

[DE] Und ich denke, das wird, ich weiß noch nicht, ob es in den nächsten zwei, drei Jahren schon richtig losgeht.

Speaker:

[EN] And I think that will...

Speaker:

[EN] I don't know if it will really start in the next two or three years,

Speaker:

[EN] but I think in ten years we will definitely have the municipalities so far that they say,

Speaker:

[DE] Aber ich denke, in zehn Jahren haben wir auf jeden Fall schon die Kommunen so weit, dass die sagen, wir brauchen alle das.

Speaker:

[EN] we all need this and that.

Speaker:

[DE] Und das ist einfach ein Standard wie 5G.

Speaker:

[EN] And that's just a standard like 5G.

Speaker:

[EN] And that's an important thing.

Speaker:

[DE] Und das ist eine wichtige Sache.

Speaker:

[EN] You can also see it in Switzerland, in Austria.

Speaker:

[DE] Man sieht es ja auch in der Schweiz, in Österreich, die sind da ja auch schon ganz voran.

Speaker:

[EN] They are already quite ahead there.

Speaker:

[DE] Ich weiß nicht, wie Deutschland da reagiert.

Speaker:

[EN] I don't know how Germany will react there.

Speaker:

[EN] I would like to.

Speaker:

[DE] Ich würde es mir wünschen.

Speaker:

[EN] I think it's pretty cool.

Speaker:

[EN] We'll have to see.

Speaker:

[DE] Muss man mal schauen.

Speaker:

[EN] Yes, you can actively contribute to this with TJK.

Speaker:

[DE] Ja, du kannst ja aktiv dazu beitragen mit TJK.

Speaker:

[EN] What are the projects that you are still working on?

Speaker:

[DE] Was sind denn Projekte, die du jetzt noch anstößt?

Speaker:

[EN] So do you already have something on your list?

Speaker:

[DE] Also hast du schon mal auf dem Zettel irgendwas Spannendes, irgendwas Großes?

Speaker:

[EN] Something exciting, something big?

Speaker:

[EN] Yes, I would say the most exciting thing for us is the Smart Village project,

Speaker:

[DE] Ja, ich würde sagen, das Spannendste ist für uns dieses Smart Village Projekt, wo wir wirklich sagen, wir werden jetzt eine ganze Stadt ausstatten mit allen möglichen von der Ansteuerung, von der Ortsbeleuchtung bis rüber zur Erfassung der Raumluft in Grundschulen.

Speaker:

[EN] where we really say,

Speaker:

[EN] we will now equip the whole city with all kinds of things,

Speaker:

[EN] from control, from local lighting,

Speaker:

[EN] all the way to the reception of the airspace in elementary schools.

Speaker:

[EN] And what all adds up from the parking space monitoring,

Speaker:

[DE] Und was da halt alles hinzufügt von der Parkraumüberwachung, von irgendwie das Bewässern der Stadtgärten.

Speaker:

[EN] from somehow watering the city gardens.

Speaker:

[DE] Und ich würde sagen, das ist unsere größte Aufgabe und das Größte, wo ich auch mithin beteiligt bin oder was wir auch selber komplett umsetzen.

Speaker:

[EN] And I would say that is our biggest task

Speaker:

[EN] and the biggest thing that I am also involved in,

Speaker:

[EN] or what we are also completely implementing ourselves.

Speaker:

[DE] Da bin ich sehr gespannt drauf, was daraus wird und wird man wahrscheinlich auch viel auf LinkedIn und den Sozialen Medien von uns sehen, wo wir auch sehr aktiv sind, was mir auch sehr viel Spaß macht.

Speaker:

[EN] I am very excited about what will come of it

Speaker:

[EN] and you will probably see a lot of it on LinkedIn

Speaker:

[EN] and the social media of us,

Speaker:

[EN] where we are also very active,

Speaker:

[EN] which is also a lot of fun.

Speaker:

[DE] Ich bin kurz davor, zum Ende zu kommen.

Speaker:

[EN] I'm just about to come to the end.

Speaker:

[EN] What is your absolute favorite sensor so far?

Speaker:

[DE] Was ist denn dein absoluter Lieblingssensor bis jetzt?

Speaker:

[EN] That's a good question.

Speaker:

[DE] Das ist eine gute Frage.

Speaker:

[EN] I grew up a little bit with the level monitoring

Speaker:

[DE] Ich bin ja so ein bisschen mit der Pegelüberwachung aufgewachsen und finde diese Geräte schon ganz spannend.

Speaker:

[EN] and find these devices quite exciting.

Speaker:

[DE] Aber wenn wir jetzt irgendwie auch über Mesh-Testing nachdenken, finde ich schon diese neuen P1-Outdoor-Router sehr cool.

Speaker:

[EN] But if we now somehow think about Mesh testing,

Speaker:

[EN] I already find these new P1 outdoor routers very cool.

Speaker:

[DE] Aber so richtig kann ich das gar nicht sagen.

Speaker:

[EN] But yes, I can't really say that.

Speaker:

[EN] I think everyone makes kind of cool devices,

Speaker:

[DE] Ich finde, jeder macht irgendwie coole Geräte, ob das irgendwie ein Kamerasensor von MySight ist oder von Senscap, umfällst anderes oder Draghino.

Speaker:

[EN] whether it's a camera sensor from MySight

Speaker:

[EN] or from Senscap or Tragino.

Speaker:

[EN] So I think they're all pretty cool.

Speaker:

[DE] Also die sind schon alle, glaube ich, ganz cool.

Speaker:

[EN] Everyone has their own range of use.

Speaker:

[DE] Jeder hat seinen Einsatzbereich.

Speaker:

[DE] Und da kann ich jetzt nicht pauschal sagen, der Draghino-Ultraschall-Sensor ist der coolste.

Speaker:

[EN] And I can't say that in a casual way.

Speaker:

[EN] The Tragino ultrasound sensor is the coolest.

Speaker:

[EN] I think they're all pretty cool at the start.

Speaker:

[DE] Ich denke, da sind alle ziemlich cool am Start.

Speaker:

[EN] What can you do as a young person

Speaker:

[DE] Was kannst du denn als junger Mensch, der jetzt, keine Ahnung, mit anderen Unternehmern im LoRaWAN-Bereich sprechen müsste, also jemand, der kommt neu in LoRaWAN rein und du hast ja eine sehr junge Perspektive.

Speaker:

[EN] who now, I don't know,

Speaker:

[EN] would have to talk to other entrepreneurs in the LoRaWAN area?

Speaker:

[EN] So someone who is new to LoRaWAN,

Speaker:

[EN] and you have a very young perspective.

Speaker:

[EN] What would you give someone

Speaker:

[DE] Was würdest du denn jemandem mitgeben, der anfängt, sich damit zu beschäftigen?

Speaker:

[EN] who is starting to deal with it?

Speaker:

[EN] I think the most important thing is these user stories.

Speaker:

[DE] Ich denke, das Wichtigste sind diese User-Stories.

Speaker:

[EN] What do people want to capture at all?

Speaker:

[DE] Was wollen die Leute überhaupt?

Speaker:

[DE] Was wollen die Leute überhaupt erfassen?

Speaker:

[EN] Because I think the first problem is to find the problem

Speaker:

[DE] Weil ich denke, das erste Problem ist es, das Problem zu finden, was man damit lösen möchte oder optimieren.

Speaker:

[EN] that you want to solve or optimize with it.

Speaker:

[EN] And I think the most important thing is

Speaker:

[DE] Und da ist es, glaube ich, das Allerwichtigste, die richtigen Leute kennenzulernen, die einem auch sagen, was sie haben wollen und brauchen.

Speaker:

[EN] to get to know the right people

Speaker:

[EN] who also tell you what they want and need.

Speaker:

[EN] And that's it.

Speaker:

[EN] So I think you can get the technology

Speaker:

[DE] Und das ist, also ich denke mal, die Technologie, die kriegt man schon mit viel Erfahrung und nach und nach kann man das schon lernen und herausfinden.

Speaker:

[EN] with a lot of experience

Speaker:

[EN] and you can learn and find out about it.

Speaker:

[DE] Aber das Wichtigste, denke ich, ist ein gutes Netzwerk und die richtigen Ansprechpartner.

Speaker:

[EN] But I think the most important thing is a good network

Speaker:

[EN] and the right contact person.

Speaker:

[EN] How do you recognize a good contact person?

Speaker:

[EN] That's a good question.

Speaker:

[DE] Ich würde sagen, an der Fachlichkeit und an der Sympathie und auf der Offenheit für neue Themen.

Speaker:

[EN] I would say in terms of professionalism

Speaker:

[EN] and sympathy

Speaker:

[EN] and openness to new topics.

Speaker:

[EN] It doesn't have to be an IT nerd.

Speaker:

[DE] Also es muss kein IT-Nerd sein, das reicht auch, wenn die Leute offen dafür sind und einfach das wollen.

Speaker:

[EN] It's enough if people are open to it

Speaker:

[EN] and just want it.

Speaker:

[EN] And then just talk about it

Speaker:

[DE] Und dann eben drüber sprechen und dann die Erfahrung zu teilen.

Speaker:

[EN] and then share the experience.

Speaker:

[EN] On my part, thank you very much

Speaker:

[DE] Von meiner Seite erstmal herzlichen Dank, dass du dir da die Zeit nimmst, darüber zu sprechen.

Speaker:

[EN] for taking the time to talk about it.

Speaker:

[EN] And of course also the best wishes

Speaker:

[DE] Und natürlich auch die besten Wünsche auf der LoRaWAN-Reise.

Speaker:

[EN] on the LoRaWAN journey.

Speaker:

[DE] Du bist bis jetzt der Jüngste, den ich kenne, der mit einem Business im LoRaWAN unterwegs ist.

Speaker:

[EN] who is on the road with a business in LoRaWAN

Speaker:

[EN] and maybe also the youngest in the podcast so far.

Speaker:

[DE] Und vielleicht auch jeder Jüngste.

Speaker:

[DE] Du hast ja auch einen Podcast bisher, deswegen danke, Tom, dass du Zeit genommen hast.

Speaker:

[EN] So thank you, Tom, for taking the time.

Speaker:

[DE] Danke, Nick, fürs Organisieren.

Speaker:

[EN] Thanks again from my side.

Speaker:

[DE] Danke auch von meiner Seite nochmal.

Speaker:

[EN] Hello and welcome, Tom.

Speaker:

[DE] Hello and welcome, Tom.

Speaker:

[EN] One of the youngest LoRaWAN enthusiasts

Speaker:

[DE] One of the youngest LoRaWAN-Enthusiasts I have met so far.

Speaker:

[EN] I have met so far.

Speaker:

[EN] And Tom, maybe you can tell us

Speaker:

[DE] And Tom, maybe you can tell us in two or three sentences how you got into it.

Speaker:

[EN] in two or three sentences

Speaker:

[EN] how you got into it

Speaker:

[EN] and you already have a business

Speaker:

[DE] And you already have a business at such a young age.

Speaker:

[EN] at such a young age.

Speaker:

[EN] How did that go?

Speaker:

[DE] How did that go?

Speaker:

[EN] Yes, that's actually an interesting question.

Speaker:

[DE] Yes, that's actually an interesting question.

Speaker:

[EN] Hello from me as well.

Speaker:

[DE] Hello from me as well.

Speaker:

[EN] I'm Tom.

Speaker:

[DE] I'm Tom.

Speaker:

[DE] I'm 20 years old now and I live in Brandenburg, Germany.

Speaker:

[EN] I'm 20 years old now

Speaker:

[EN] and I live in Brandenburg, Germany.

Speaker:

[EN] Exactly.

Speaker:

[DE] Exactly.

Speaker:

[EN] And I actually came into contact

Speaker:

[DE] I came into contact with the topic of LoRaWAN in the 7th or 8th grade.

Speaker:

[EN] with the topic of LoRaWAN

Speaker:

[EN] in the seventh or eighth grade

Speaker:

[EN] and indeed through a YouTube channel

Speaker:

[DE] And indeed through a YouTube channel called IQWeb, which is run by an Austrian.

Speaker:

[EN] called IQWeb,

Speaker:

[EN] which is run by an Austrian.

Speaker:

[EN] And back then he started with LoRaWAN

Speaker:

[DE] And back then he started with LoRaWAN and had the first things.

Speaker:

[EN] and had the first things.

Speaker:

[EN] And I found that so exciting.

Speaker:

[DE] And I found that so exciting.

Speaker:

[EN] And that's why

Speaker:

[DE] And then he had a Yes-Project with a weather station.

Speaker:

[EN] then he had a yes project

Speaker:

[EN] with a weather station.

Speaker:

[EN] And I found that very, yes, impressive

Speaker:

[EN] and also fascinating

Speaker:

[EN] that you can send things

Speaker:

[DE] that you can send things over long distances without much energy.

Speaker:

[EN] over long distances

Speaker:

[EN] without much energy.

Speaker:

[EN] And somehow I got into it.

Speaker:

[DE] And somehow I got into it.

Speaker:

[EN] And since I had a cool, well, school,

Speaker:

[DE] And since I had a cool, well, school, it continued with the...

Speaker:

[EN] it continued with the science classes

Speaker:

[DE] Science classes and it just kept going, yeah.

Speaker:

[EN] and it just kept going.

Speaker:

[EN] Yeah.

Speaker:

[EN] What did you start with?

Speaker:

[DE] What did you start with?

Speaker:

[EN] What was your first LoRa project?

Speaker:

[DE] What was your first LoRa project?

Speaker:

[EN] Oh, I think my first LoRa project

Speaker:

[DE] Oh, I think my first LoRa project was these two Haltech boards.

Speaker:

[EN] was these two Haltech boards.

Speaker:

[EN] I then transmitted two temperature values

Speaker:

[EN] from a BME280.

Speaker:

[EN] And the other one displayed it

Speaker:

[DE] and the other one displayed it on this small OLED display.

Speaker:

[EN] on this small OLED display.

Speaker:

[EN] And that was LoRa at first,

Speaker:

[DE] And that was LoRa at first, not yet LoRaWAN, but that was quickly the next step.

Speaker:

[EN] not yet LoRaWAN,

Speaker:

[EN] but that was quickly the next step.

Speaker:

[EN] And it started with that.

Speaker:

[DE] And I started with that.

Speaker:

[EN] And then I had, I believe,

Speaker:

[DE] And then I had, I believe, this first small Dragino gateway, the LR8,

Speaker:

[EN] this first small Draghino gateway,

Speaker:

[EN] the LR8,

Speaker:

[EN] this little white device.

Speaker:

[DE] this little white device.

Speaker:

[EN] And yes, that's how it started.

Speaker:

[DE] And yes, that's how it started.

Speaker:

[EN] And then I believe

Speaker:

[DE] And then I believe our first LoRaWAN project was our Melancy.

Speaker:

[EN] our first LoRaWAN project

Speaker:

[EN] was our Melency.

Speaker:

[EN] We had biology in eighth

Speaker:

[DE] We had biology in eighth and ninth grade.

Speaker:

[EN] and ninth grade.

Speaker:

[EN] And the topic was

Speaker:

[DE] And the topic was, what happens to our lakes?

Speaker:

[EN] what happens to our lakes?

Speaker:

[EN] What do the nutrients

Speaker:

[DE] What do the nutrients and temperatures do?

Speaker:

[EN] and temperatures do?

Speaker:

[EN] And then I buried

Speaker:

[EN] a small LoRaWAN temperature

Speaker:

[EN] and pH sensor in the lake.

Speaker:

[EN] And that's how it started.

Speaker:

[DE] And that's how it started.

Speaker:

[EN] Yes, the sport was created.

Speaker:

[DE] Yes, the sport was created.

Speaker:

[DE] And then I was already right in the middle of the topic.

Speaker:

[EN] And then I was already

Speaker:

[EN] right in the middle of the topic.

Speaker:

[EN] Now I would like to talk

Speaker:

[DE] Now I would like to talk about the transition,

Speaker:

[EN] about the transition,

Speaker:

[EN] the transition from doing this

Speaker:

[DE] the transition from doing this...

Speaker:

[DE] ...to doing this for a school project to share having TJK solutions.

Speaker:

[EN] for a school project

Speaker:

[EN] to share having TJK solutions.

Speaker:

[EN] How did that come together?

Speaker:

[DE] How did that come together?

Speaker:

[EN] That was a good question.

Speaker:

[DE] That was a good question.

Speaker:

[EN] Well, it actually started

Speaker:

[DE] Well, it actually started during the final school exams

Speaker:

[EN] during the final school exams

Speaker:

[EN] when I somehow wanted more

Speaker:

[DE] when I somehow wanted more at our Melancy.

Speaker:

[EN] information.

Speaker:

[EN] We had our Melency.

Speaker:

[DE] We wanted to monitor the water level.

Speaker:

[EN] We wanted to monitor

Speaker:

[EN] the water level

Speaker:

[DE] And that was only possible at the lock

Speaker:

[EN] and that was only possible

Speaker:

[EN] at the lock

Speaker:

[EN] because structurally

Speaker:

[EN] it just didn't work well otherwise.

Speaker:

[EN] And for that,

Speaker:

[DE] And for that, we got in touch with an authority

Speaker:

[EN] we got in touch

Speaker:

[EN] with an authority

Speaker:

[EN] with the water

Speaker:

[EN] and bean association here

Speaker:

[EN] to ask,

Speaker:

[DE] hey, can we plant something there?

Speaker:

[EN] hey, can we plant something there?

Speaker:

[DE] Is that okay?

Speaker:

[EN] Is that OK?

Speaker:

[DE] Do you have any issues with it?

Speaker:

[EN] Do you have any issues with it?

Speaker:

[DE] They found it all quite okay.

Speaker:

[EN] They found it all quite OK,

Speaker:

[EN] but unfortunately

Speaker:

[DE] But unfortunately,

Speaker:

[DE] they found it so, so exciting that they said,

Speaker:

[EN] they found it so,

Speaker:

[EN] so exciting

Speaker:

[EN] that they said,

Speaker:

[EN] hey, Tom,

Speaker:

[DE] hey, Tom, we need flood protection.

Speaker:

[EN] we need flood protection.

Speaker:

[DE] We need more of it.

Speaker:

[EN] We need more of it.

Speaker:

[EN] And we have other devices

Speaker:

[DE] And we have other devices that cost 8,000 euros each

Speaker:

[EN] that cost 8000 euros each

Speaker:

[EN] and that's not feasible.

Speaker:

[DE] and that's not feasible.

Speaker:

[EN] We need maintenance

Speaker:

[DE] We need many.

Speaker:

[EN] for many.

Speaker:

[DE] And can you do something about it?

Speaker:

[EN] And can you do

Speaker:

[EN] something about it?

Speaker:

[EN] I said,

Speaker:

[DE] I said, yeah, sure.

Speaker:

[EN] yeah, sure.

Speaker:

[DE] I mean, it's possible.

Speaker:

[EN] I mean, it's possible.

Speaker:

[EN] My father is also

Speaker:

[DE] My father is also somehow self-employed.

Speaker:

[EN] somehow self-employed.

Speaker:

[EN] Yes, an entrepreneur.

Speaker:

[DE] Yes, an entrepreneur.

Speaker:

[EN] And so business

Speaker:

[DE] And so business was kind of in the family

Speaker:

[EN] was kind of in the family

Speaker:

[EN] and I needed

Speaker:

[DE] and they needed an invoice.

Speaker:

[EN] they needed an invoice.

Speaker:

[EN] And then,

Speaker:

[DE] And then, yeah, I said,

Speaker:

[EN] yeah, I said,

Speaker:

[EN] then I'll just quickly

Speaker:

[DE] then I'll just quickly start a business.

Speaker:

[EN] start a business.

Speaker:

[DE] What does quickly mean?

Speaker:

[EN] What does quickly mean?

Speaker:

[EN] That involves a lot,

Speaker:

[DE] That involves a lot, right?

Speaker:

[EN] right?

Speaker:

[EN] All the preliminary

Speaker:

[DE] All the preliminary consultations,

Speaker:

[EN] consultations,

Speaker:

[EN] what needs to be done.

Speaker:

[DE] what needs to be done.

Speaker:

[EN] But I would say

Speaker:

[DE] But I would say within one or two months,

Speaker:

[EN] within one or two months,

Speaker:

[EN] I founded it.

Speaker:

[DE] I founded it.

Speaker:

[EN] And then the first

Speaker:

[EN] commercial Laura One project

Speaker:

[DE] And then the first commercial Laura One project

Speaker:

[EN] started.

Speaker:

[EN] With flood protection.

Speaker:

[DE] started with flood protection.

Speaker:

[EN] Yes.

Speaker:

[EN] What has happened

Speaker:

[DE] Yes.

Speaker:

[EN] in the meantime?

Speaker:

[DE] What has happened in the meantime?

Speaker:

[EN] What are you all doing there?

Speaker:

[DE] What are you all doing there?

Speaker:

[EN] So for the flood protection,

Speaker:

[DE] So for the flood protection,

Speaker:

[EN] we have now monitored

Speaker:

[DE] we have now monitored an entire channel

Speaker:

[EN] an entire channel

Speaker:

[EN] from Lake One

Speaker:

[DE] from Lake One to the Spree.

Speaker:

[EN] to the Spree.

Speaker:

[EN] And in the past,

Speaker:

[DE] And in the past,

Speaker:

[EN] they always had to go there

Speaker:

[DE] they always had to go there

Speaker:

[EN] and write down

Speaker:

[DE] and write down on a piece of paper

Speaker:

[EN] on a piece of paper

Speaker:

[EN] how high the water level was.

Speaker:

[DE] how high the water level was.

Speaker:

[EN] And that wasn't very

Speaker:

[DE] And that wasn't very economical

Speaker:

[EN] economical or modern

Speaker:

[DE] or modern up to date.

Speaker:

[EN] Yes.

Speaker:

[EN] And now it continued

Speaker:

[DE] And now it continued with our lake.

Speaker:

[EN] with our lake.

Speaker:

[EN] It then went on

Speaker:

[DE] It then went on with weather stations

Speaker:

[EN] with weather stations

Speaker:

[EN] at the beach baths,

Speaker:

[DE] at the beach baths,

Speaker:

[EN] information displays,

Speaker:

[DE] information displays,

Speaker:

[EN] a small welcome screen

Speaker:

[EN] where people come in

Speaker:

[EN] and see how warm

Speaker:

[DE] where people come in

Speaker:

[EN] the water is

Speaker:

[DE] and see how warm the water is

Speaker:

[EN] and all those

Speaker:

[DE] and all those nice little details.

Speaker:

[EN] nice little details.

Speaker:

[EN] And then onto

Speaker:

[EN] the website

Speaker:

[DE] And then onto the website of the beach baths.

Speaker:

[EN] of the beach baths.

Speaker:

[EN] Exactly.

Speaker:

[DE] Exactly.

Speaker:

[EN] That's how it continued

Speaker:

[DE] That's how it continued

Speaker:

[EN] and everything like that.

Speaker:

[DE] and everything like that.

Speaker:

[EN] And then also

Speaker:

[EN] the classics

Speaker:

[DE] And then also classics

Speaker:

[EN] that you deal with

Speaker:

[DE] that you deal with using Laura One.

Speaker:

[EN] using Laura One.

Speaker:

[EN] Then it started

Speaker:

[DE] Then it started with measuring soil temperature

Speaker:

[EN] with measuring

Speaker:

[EN] soil temperature

Speaker:

[EN] in agriculture,

Speaker:

[DE] and agriculture,

Speaker:

[EN] the moisture

Speaker:

[DE] the moisture and so on.

Speaker:

[EN] and so on.

Speaker:

[EN] Everything you somehow do.

Speaker:

[DE] Everything you somehow do.

Speaker:

[EN] And now I would say

Speaker:

[DE] And now I would say

Speaker:

[EN] the biggest project

Speaker:

[DE] the biggest project,

Speaker:

[EN] we now have

Speaker:

[EN] a small smart city village,

Speaker:

[DE] we now have a small smart city village,

Speaker:

[EN] smart village project

Speaker:

[DE] smart village project.

Speaker:

[EN] that we have

Speaker:

[DE] And it's starting with street lighting,

Speaker:

[EN] and it's starting

Speaker:

[EN] with street lighting,

Speaker:

[EN] smart metering

Speaker:

[EN] and everything

Speaker:

[EN] that goes with it.

Speaker:

[EN] And so somehow

Speaker:

[DE] And so somehow

Speaker:

[EN] when you know

Speaker:

[EN] the right people,

Speaker:

[DE] you suddenly get involved in everything.

Speaker:

[EN] you suddenly get involved

Speaker:

[EN] in everything

Speaker:

[DE] And somehow it then went from Laura One

Speaker:

[EN] and somehow

Speaker:

[EN] it then went

Speaker:

[DE] to mesh testing.

Speaker:

[EN] from Laura One

Speaker:

[DE] Yes.

Speaker:

[EN] to mesh testing.

Speaker:

[DE] Before we dive in,

Speaker:

[EN] Yes.

Speaker:

[DE] how is it in your area?

Speaker:

[EN] Before we dive in,

Speaker:

[DE] You said it's very rural.

Speaker:

[EN] how is it in your area?

Speaker:

[EN] You said it's very rural.

Speaker:

[DE] How is the acceptance

Speaker:

[EN] How is the acceptance

Speaker:

[DE] of the technology there?

Speaker:

[EN] of the technology there?

Speaker:

[EN] Do people say,

Speaker:

[DE] Do people say cool,

Speaker:

[EN] cool,

Speaker:

[DE] set it up there,

Speaker:

[EN] set it up there,

Speaker:

[EN] definitely put

Speaker:

[EN] a gateway up?

Speaker:

[DE] Or how does the community perceive

Speaker:

[EN] Or how does

Speaker:

[EN] the community perceive

Speaker:

[EN] what you are doing there?

Speaker:

[DE] what you are doing there?

Speaker:

[EN] Yeah.

Speaker:

[DE] Yes, that's actually exciting.

Speaker:

[EN] Yes,

Speaker:

[EN] that's actually exciting.

Speaker:

[DE] We are very close to Berlin.

Speaker:

[EN] We are very close

Speaker:

[EN] to Berlin,

Speaker:

[DE] So I would say

Speaker:

[EN] so I would say

Speaker:

[DE] I would still call it the commuter belt.

Speaker:

[EN] I would still call it

Speaker:

[EN] the commuter belt.

Speaker:

[DE] It's about 20, 30 kilometers south.

Speaker:

[EN] It's about 20,

Speaker:

[EN] 30 kilometers south.

Speaker:

[EN] And yes,

Speaker:

[DE] And yes, it's a bit exciting.

Speaker:

[EN] it's a bit exciting.

Speaker:

[EN] First of all,

Speaker:

[DE] First of all,

Speaker:

[DE] there isn't really a huge community.

Speaker:

[EN] there isn't really

Speaker:

[EN] a huge community.

Speaker:

[DE] I would say people don't really

Speaker:

[EN] I would say

Speaker:

[EN] people don't really know

Speaker:

[DE] know much about it yet,

Speaker:

[EN] much about it yet

Speaker:

[DE] unless they've had contact with us

Speaker:

[EN] unless they've had contact

Speaker:

[DE] and wanted to transmit things.

Speaker:

[EN] and wanted to transmit things.

Speaker:

[EN] But I would say

Speaker:

[DE] But I would say

Speaker:

[DE] we have now set up,

Speaker:

[EN] we have now

Speaker:

[EN] set up,

Speaker:

[DE] yes, three gateways

Speaker:

[EN] yes,

Speaker:

[DE] in the community at Melancy.

Speaker:

[EN] three gateways

Speaker:

[EN] in the community

Speaker:

[DE] And it works quite well

Speaker:

[EN] at Melensee

Speaker:

[DE] because we can also work well

Speaker:

[EN] and it works quite well

Speaker:

[EN] with the community

Speaker:

[DE] with the community

Speaker:

[DE] and they find it exciting.

Speaker:

[EN] and they find it exciting.

Speaker:

[EN] But due to financial situations

Speaker:

[DE] But due to financial situations

Speaker:

[EN] and budget issues,

Speaker:

[DE] and budget issues,

Speaker:

[EN] it has not progressed much

Speaker:

[DE] it has not progressed much

Speaker:

[EN] with the topic of LoRaWAN.

Speaker:

[DE] with the topic of Laura One.

Speaker:

[EN] But the support is there.

Speaker:

[DE] But the support is there.

Speaker:

[EN] So it's not technology friendliness,

Speaker:

[DE] So it's not technology friendliness,

Speaker:

[EN] but how would you describe it?

Speaker:

[DE] but how would you describe it?

Speaker:

[EN] No,

Speaker:

[DE] No, not at all.

Speaker:

[EN] not at all.

Speaker:

[DE] I would even say quite the opposite.

Speaker:

[EN] I would even say

Speaker:

[EN] quite the opposite.

Speaker:

[DE] People think it's cool.

Speaker:

[EN] People think it's cool.

Speaker:

[EN] I think it might also be

Speaker:

[EN] because of my young age

Speaker:

[DE] because of my young age

Speaker:

[EN] that I bring these

Speaker:

[DE] that I bring these new inspirations

Speaker:

[EN] new inspirations

Speaker:

[DE] and say, hey, look,

Speaker:

[EN] and say,

Speaker:

[EN] hey,

Speaker:

[DE] we have this now

Speaker:

[DE] and we don't have to traditionally

Speaker:

[EN] look,

Speaker:

[EN] we have this now

Speaker:

[DE] insert a SIM card somewhere

Speaker:

[EN] and we don't have to

Speaker:

[EN] traditionally insert

Speaker:

[DE] and can now transmit

Speaker:

[EN] a SIM card somewhere

Speaker:

[DE] and display things and switch.

Speaker:

[EN] to play things

Speaker:

[EN] and switch.

Speaker:

[EN] And I think

Speaker:

[DE] And I think they find that pretty cool

Speaker:

[EN] they find that pretty cool

Speaker:

[EN] because it's something new.

Speaker:

[DE] because it's something new.

Speaker:

[EN] But we are,

Speaker:

[EN] I would say,

Speaker:

[EN] the population

Speaker:

[DE] the population is already

Speaker:

[EN] is already very open

Speaker:

[DE] very open to the topic

Speaker:

[EN] to the topic

Speaker:

[EN] and also grateful.

Speaker:

[EN] Grateful and open

Speaker:

[DE] Grateful and open,

Speaker:

[EN] just like your family.

Speaker:

[DE] just like your family.

Speaker:

[EN] Can you give us

Speaker:

[DE] Can you give us a bit of background?

Speaker:

[EN] a bit of background

Speaker:

[EN] because I know

Speaker:

[DE] Because I know you have

Speaker:

[EN] you have a special

Speaker:

[DE] a special family situation,

Speaker:

[EN] family situation

Speaker:

[EN] which would lead us

Speaker:

[DE] which would be a big deal for you.

Speaker:

[DE] Which would lead us

Speaker:

[EN] to the next LoRa application.

Speaker:

[DE] to the next LoRa application.

Speaker:

[EN] How did it happen

Speaker:

[DE] How did it happen

Speaker:

[EN] that your family

Speaker:

[DE] that your family basically said

Speaker:

[EN] basically said

Speaker:

[EN] we need something new

Speaker:

[DE] we need something new

Speaker:

[EN] towards Meshtastic,

Speaker:

[DE] towards Meshtastic?

Speaker:

[EN] I'm thinking right now?

Speaker:

[DE] I'm thinking right now.

Speaker:

[EN] That's also a bit exciting.

Speaker:

[DE] That's also a bit exciting.

Speaker:

[EN] I think

Speaker:

[EN] this led to

Speaker:

[DE] This led to my uncle

Speaker:

[EN] my uncle

Speaker:

[EN] being elected

Speaker:

[DE] being elected mayor two years ago

Speaker:

[EN] mayor

Speaker:

[EN] two years ago

Speaker:

[EN] and we kind of

Speaker:

[DE] and we kind of got involved politically

Speaker:

[EN] got involved

Speaker:

[EN] politically

Speaker:

[DE] and due to the increasing global crisis,

Speaker:

[EN] and due to

Speaker:

[EN] the increasing

Speaker:

[EN] global crisis,

Speaker:

[EN] we decided

Speaker:

[DE] we decided that we need to work together.

Speaker:

[EN] that we need

Speaker:

[EN] to work together.

Speaker:

[EN] And yes,

Speaker:

[DE] And yes,

Speaker:

[EN] almost all my family

Speaker:

[DE] all my family lives in Melinza

Speaker:

[EN] lives in Melenza

Speaker:

[EN] and the surrounding area.

Speaker:

[DE] and the surrounding area.

Speaker:

[EN] So I think

Speaker:

[DE] So I think we are quite well connected

Speaker:

[EN] we are quite well connected

Speaker:

[EN] with the community

Speaker:

[DE] with the community

Speaker:

[EN] when you are,

Speaker:

[DE] when you are, so to speak,

Speaker:

[EN] so to speak,

Speaker:

[EN] right at the source.

Speaker:

[DE] right at the source.

Speaker:

[EN] You and your father,

Speaker:

[DE] You and your father,

Speaker:

[EN] you are part of an organisation

Speaker:

[DE] you are part of an organization.

Speaker:

[EN] where are you both involved?

Speaker:

[DE] Where are you both involved?

Speaker:

[EN] Yes,

Speaker:

[DE] Yes, maybe I should first say

Speaker:

[EN] maybe I should first say

Speaker:

[EN] that my father

Speaker:

[EN] is also a radio amateur.

Speaker:

[EN] He used to do it a lot

Speaker:

[DE] He used to do it a lot

Speaker:

[DE] and has somehow been reactivated

Speaker:

[EN] and has somehow

Speaker:

[EN] been reactivated

Speaker:

[EN] by my activities.

Speaker:

[EN] And yes,

Speaker:

[DE] And yes, these activities

Speaker:

[EN] these activities

Speaker:

[DE] are also reflected

Speaker:

[EN] are also reflected

Speaker:

[EN] in the fire department.

Speaker:

[EN] We are active

Speaker:

[DE] We are active in a special unit

Speaker:

[EN] in a special unit

Speaker:

[EN] called

Speaker:

[DE] called Information

Speaker:

[EN] Information

Speaker:

[DE] and Communication IUK.

Speaker:

[EN] and Communication

Speaker:

[EN] .

Speaker:

[EN] And there

Speaker:

[DE] And there our job is to ensure

Speaker:

[EN] our job

Speaker:

[EN] is to ensure

Speaker:

[DE] that the fire department

Speaker:

[EN] that the fire department

Speaker:

[DE] can always communicate,

Speaker:

[EN] can always communicate

Speaker:

[EN] speaking,

Speaker:

[DE] speaking, writing,

Speaker:

[EN] writing,

Speaker:

[EN] everything related

Speaker:

[DE] everything related to it.

Speaker:

[EN] to it

Speaker:

[DE] And so we are also rooted there

Speaker:

[EN] and so we are also

Speaker:

[EN] rooted there

Speaker:

[DE] voluntarily in municipal safety.

Speaker:

[EN] voluntarily

Speaker:

[EN] in municipal safety.

Speaker:

[EN] Now we have

Speaker:

[DE] Now we have a young entrepreneur

Speaker:

[EN] a young entrepreneur

Speaker:

[EN] with Laura One.

Speaker:

[DE] with Laura Wan.

Speaker:

[EN] We have a dad

Speaker:

[DE] We have a dad who used to be

Speaker:

[EN] who used to be

Speaker:

[EN] with the

Speaker:

[DE] with the amateur radio operators

Speaker:

[EN] amateur radio operators

Speaker:

[EN] and we have

Speaker:

[DE] and we have the uncle, right,

Speaker:

[EN] the uncle,

Speaker:

[EN] right,

Speaker:

[DE] who has now become mayor.

Speaker:

[EN] who has now become

Speaker:

[EN] mayor.

Speaker:

[DE] And what do you have?

Speaker:

[EN] And what do you have?

Speaker:

[DE] What was the problem?

Speaker:

[EN] What was the problem?

Speaker:

[DE] Why did you come together?

Speaker:

[EN] Why did you come together

Speaker:

[DE] And say, we're doing a project

Speaker:

[EN] and say

Speaker:

[DE] with Laura now?

Speaker:

[EN] we're doing a project

Speaker:

[EN] with Laura now?

Speaker:

[DE] Yes, with Laura, that's right.

Speaker:

[EN] Yes,

Speaker:

[EN] with Laura,

Speaker:

[DE] Laura Wan didn't quite fit at first

Speaker:

[EN] that's right.

Speaker:

[EN] Laura One

Speaker:

[EN] didn't quite fit

Speaker:

[EN] at first

Speaker:

[DE] of MESHTASTIC

Speaker:

[EN] because we came

Speaker:

[DE] since our state of Brandenburg said,

Speaker:

[EN] here in the year

Speaker:

[EN] of 2016

Speaker:

[EN] this time

Speaker:

[DE] hey, we have funding

Speaker:

[EN] and then

Speaker:

[DE] for disaster protection.

Speaker:

[EN] we came here

Speaker:

[EN] in the year

Speaker:

[DE] You now have to ensure

Speaker:

[EN] of 2017

Speaker:

[DE] that 1% of your population

Speaker:

[EN] and it wasn't

Speaker:

[EN] too bad

Speaker:

[DE] can be accommodated

Speaker:

[EN] because we were

Speaker:

[DE] and supplied in a multipurpose hall

Speaker:

[EN] talking

Speaker:

[EN] with a few

Speaker:

[EN] of our

Speaker:

[DE] or elsewhere.

Speaker:

[DE] And there are a few conditions,

Speaker:

[DE] including communication.

Speaker:

[DE] And there were many things.

Speaker:

[DE] There was, for example,

Speaker:

[DE] a Starlink for Internet

Speaker:

[DE] and who knows what else,

Speaker:

[EN] friends

Speaker:

[EN] in the city

Speaker:

[DE] I would say.

Speaker:

[EN] and we had

Speaker:

[DE] It wasn't fully thought through

Speaker:

[EN] a conversation

Speaker:

[DE] because we have Melancy,

Speaker:

[EN] with Laura

Speaker:

[EN] at that time

Speaker:

[DE] which is relatively large

Speaker:

[DE] with a lot of forest in between

Speaker:

[EN] a lot of forest in between and spread out and if now someone has to come from quite far away from

Speaker:

[DE] and spread out.

Speaker:

[DE] And if now someone has to come

Speaker:

[DE] from quite far away from a place,

Speaker:

[EN] a place from a community to this point this disaster protection point if we now have a

Speaker:

[DE] from a community to this point,

Speaker:

[DE] this disaster protection point,

Speaker:

[DE] if we now have a situation

Speaker:

[EN] situation where we have no electricity and no internet then it should be like the lighthouse

Speaker:

[DE] where we have no electricity

Speaker:

[DE] and no Internet,

Speaker:

[DE] then it should be like the lighthouse

Speaker:

[DE] that is in the dark,

Speaker:

[EN] that is in the dark then a light mast and it will be ensured that you can get there and receive

Speaker:

[DE] then a light mast

Speaker:

[DE] and it will be like a light house.

Speaker:

[DE] And it will be ensured

Speaker:

[DE] that you can get there

Speaker:

[DE] and receive electricity and water.

Speaker:

[EN] electricity and water but that is just a problem because not everyone can get there and that's why

Speaker:

[DE] But that is just a problem

Speaker:

[DE] because not everyone can get there.

Speaker:

[DE] And that's why we have looked for

Speaker:

[EN] we have looked for and found ways to connect and make the individual districts communicative

Speaker:

[DE] and found ways to connect

Speaker:

[DE] and make the individual districts

Speaker:

[DE] communicative.

Speaker:

[EN] okay what does that mean what exactly did you do today so we then started with the topic of that

Speaker:

[DE] Okay, what does that mean?

Speaker:

[DE] What exactly did you do today?

Speaker:

[DE] So we then started with the topic

Speaker:

[DE] of that open source project,

Speaker:

[EN] open source project mesh tastic i had already had it in mind before because it was pretty cool

Speaker:

[DE] MeshTastic.

Speaker:

[DE] I had already had it in mind before

Speaker:

[DE] because it was pretty cool

Speaker:

[EN] with the hardware i already had and that's what it was about

Speaker:

[DE] I already had.

Speaker:

[DE] And that's what it was about,

Speaker:

[EN] that we can say we can send small data packets and text messages via lora to the disaster protection

Speaker:

[DE] that we can say,

Speaker:

[DE] we can send small data packets

Speaker:

[DE] and text messages via LoRa

Speaker:

[DE] to the disaster protection beacon

Speaker:

[EN] beacon and to the yes to the community when everything fails when power fails when the

Speaker:

[DE] and to the, yes, to the community

Speaker:

[DE] when everything fails,

Speaker:

[DE] when power fails,

Speaker:

[DE] when the Internet fails

Speaker:

[EN] internet fails and when nothing works anymore the possibility should still exist that we have

Speaker:

[DE] and when nothing works anymore,

Speaker:

[DE] the possibility should still exist

Speaker:

[DE] that we have an autonomous,

Speaker:

[EN] an autonomous independent network to inform the citizens to direct the fire department and to

Speaker:

[DE] independent network

Speaker:

[DE] to inform the citizens,

Speaker:

[DE] to direct the fire department

Speaker:

[DE] and to ensure everything else

Speaker:

[EN] ensure everything else so that communication which is really important to the community

Speaker:

[DE] so that we can send

Speaker:

[DE] that communication,

Speaker:

[DE] which is really important

Speaker:

[EN] in such a security or crisis situation functions and is guaranteed why actually so let's say

Speaker:

[DE] in such a security

Speaker:

[DE] or crisis situation functions

Speaker:

[DE] and is guaranteed.

Speaker:

[DE] Why actually?

Speaker:

[DE] So let's say tomorrow

Speaker:

[EN] tomorrow we have a power outage here yes and i also live in the village and i need to be able

Speaker:

[DE] we have a power outage here.

Speaker:

[DE] Yes, and I also live in the village

Speaker:

[DE] and I need to be able to communicate.

Speaker:

[EN] to communicate don't i need water supply and heat and all that much more so why is that an important

Speaker:

[DE] Don't I need water supply and heat

Speaker:

[DE] and all that much more?

Speaker:

[DE] So why is that an important part of it?

Speaker:

[EN] part of it yes that's probably what one thinks at first but primarily it's the communication for

Speaker:

[DE] Yes, that's probably

Speaker:

[DE] what one thinks at first,

Speaker:

[DE] but primarily it's the communication

Speaker:

[DE] for our municipal employees

Speaker:

[EN] our municipal employees and the fire department so they can implement everything so they can

Speaker:

[DE] and the fire department.

Speaker:

[DE] So they can implement everything

Speaker:

[DE] so they can ensure that

Speaker:

[EN] ensure that we have water again we have electricity again or we have water and

Speaker:

[DE] we have water again,

Speaker:

[DE] we have electricity again

Speaker:

[DE] or we have water and electricity

Speaker:

[EN] electricity at a specific location that we can also inform the citizens they can then go to a

Speaker:

[DE] at a specific location

Speaker:

[DE] that we can also inform the citizens.

Speaker:

[DE] They can then go to a community center,

Speaker:

[EN] community center a daycare or a school and say hey i have a problem i have no water i need

Speaker:

[DE] a daycare or a school and say,

Speaker:

[DE] hey, I have a problem.

Speaker:

[DE] I have no water.

Speaker:

[DE] I need electricity or something.

Speaker:

[EN] electricity or something then they can say hey and they write via this mesh tastic device over

Speaker:

[DE] Then they can say, hey,

Speaker:

[DE] and they write via this mesh-tastic device

Speaker:

[DE] over the network we have set up.

Speaker:

[EN] the network we have set up what we need here is a citizen who needs this and that and the

Speaker:

[DE] What we need here is a citizen

Speaker:

[DE] who needs this and that.

Speaker:

[DE] And the municipality can then say,

Speaker:

[EN] municipality can then say or the mayor yes then just send them to the lighthouse and

Speaker:

[DE] hey, or the mayor, yes,

Speaker:

[DE] then just send them to the lighthouse

Speaker:

[DE] and they will get the information there.

Speaker:

[EN] they will get the information there and yes so that the infrastructure and communication can

Speaker:

[DE] And yes, so that the infrastructure

Speaker:

[DE] and communication can simply be restored

Speaker:

[EN] simply be restored and all night's important deeds can be addressed did you just say that

Speaker:

[DE] and all needs, important needs

Speaker:

[DE] can be addressed.

Speaker:

[DE] Did you just say that?

Speaker:

[EN] that's for the case when there's no electricity how does a network run completely autonomously

Speaker:

[DE] That's for the case

Speaker:

[DE] when there's no electricity.

Speaker:

[DE] How does a network run

Speaker:

[DE] completely autonomously

Speaker:

[EN] when the power goes out yes when does the power go out probably when the the power plants or

Speaker:

[DE] Yes, when does the power go out?

Speaker:

[DE] Probably when the power plants

Speaker:

[DE] or something are damaged

Speaker:

[EN] something are damaged or other things that we have a blackout situation or it might already

Speaker:

[DE] or other things

Speaker:

[DE] that we have a blackout situation

Speaker:

[DE] or it might already be

Speaker:

[EN] be enough if the internet goes down then we all already have

Speaker:

[DE] enough if the internet goes down.

Speaker:

[DE] Then we all already have problems

Speaker:

[EN] problems and actually power and internet are our biggest weaknesses we just have to to bridge that

Speaker:

[DE] and actually power and internet

Speaker:

[DE] are our biggest weaknesses.

Speaker:

[DE] We just have to bridge that.

Speaker:

[EN] and we have covered the internet with this lora with mesh tastic and it operates like lora one at

Speaker:

[DE] And we have covered the internet

Speaker:

[DE] with this LoRa with mesh-tastic

Speaker:

[DE] and it operates like LoRa 1

Speaker:

[DE] at 868 megahertz here in Europe.

Speaker:

[EN] 868 megahertz here in europe exactly and with that we can already achieve radio coverage through

Speaker:

[DE] Exactly.

Speaker:

[DE] And with that,

Speaker:

[DE] we can already achieve radio coverage

Speaker:

[DE] through these many small routers

Speaker:

[EN] these many small routers in each district ensure communication and the power runs to

Speaker:

[DE] in each district

Speaker:

[DE] and show communication

Speaker:

[DE] and the power runs

Speaker:

[DE] to these small nodes

Speaker:

[EN] these small nodes completely autonomously

Speaker:

[DE] completely autonomously

Speaker:

[EN] via solar and batteries that means the devices are so self-sufficient that they can say hey we

Speaker:

[DE] That means the devices

Speaker:

[DE] are so self-sufficient

Speaker:

[DE] that they can say,

Speaker:

[DE] hey, we are running all year round.

Speaker:

[EN] are running all year round that's how it is currently always through autonomy through

Speaker:

[DE] That's how it is currently,

Speaker:

[DE] always through autonomy,

Speaker:

[DE] through solar power

Speaker:

[EN] solar power or photovoltaic power and batteries i thought why was the choice of mesh tastic and

Speaker:

[DE] or photovoltaic power and batteries.

Speaker:

[DE] I thought,

Speaker:

[DE] why was the choice of mesh-tastic

Speaker:

[DE] and a low-energy radio system?

Speaker:

[EN] a low energy radio system i mean it's in the name instead of a wi-fi that you're setting up

Speaker:

[DE] I mean, it's in the name

Speaker:

[DE] instead of a Wi-Fi

Speaker:

[DE] that you're setting up.

Speaker:

[EN] why didn't you build a local internet or something but did it this way well yes one could have also

Speaker:

[DE] Why didn't you build

Speaker:

[DE] a local internet or something,

Speaker:

[DE] but did it this way?

Speaker:

[DE] Well, yes,

Speaker:

[DE] one could have also gone and said,

Speaker:

[EN] gone and said let's go to the internet and let's go to the internet and let's go to the internet

Speaker:

[DE] let's build a microwave radio network

Speaker:

[EN] and let's build a microwave radio network over 2.4 gigahertz and then something like the hamnet

Speaker:

[DE] over 2.4 gigahertz

Speaker:

[DE] and then something like the Hamnet,

Speaker:

[EN] which comes from amateur radio that's also very popular but yeah at the end of the day i mean it

Speaker:

[DE] which comes from amateur radio.

Speaker:

[DE] That's also very popular.

Speaker:

[DE] But yeah, at the end of the day,

Speaker:

[DE] I mean, it was a question of cost

Speaker:

[EN] was a question of cost because we had no money the country did not provide any funds and it had

Speaker:

[DE] because we had no money.

Speaker:

[DE] The country did not provide any funds

Speaker:

[DE] and it had to be financed

Speaker:

[EN] to be financed from municipal resources yes and that actually wasn't possible either because we

Speaker:

[DE] from municipal resources.

Speaker:

[DE] Yes.

Speaker:

[DE] And that actually wasn't possible either

Speaker:

[DE] because we have a budget freeze

Speaker:

[EN] have a budget freeze and there are currently no subsidies for it and that's why we simply used

Speaker:

[DE] and there are currently

Speaker:

[DE] no subsidies for it.

Speaker:

[DE] And that's why we simply used LoRa

Speaker:

[EN] lora or mesh tastic and the hardware from well i'll just say it from the internet and then we

Speaker:

[DE] or mesh-tastic

Speaker:

[DE] and the hardware from,

Speaker:

[DE] well, I'll just say it,

Speaker:

[DE] from the company Seed Studios

Speaker:

[EN] built it from the company seed studios using senscap and they were significantly cheaper than

Speaker:

[DE] using SenseCap.

Speaker:

[DE] And they were significantly cheaper

Speaker:

[DE] than if we had set up

Speaker:

[EN] if we had set up an ip node everywhere with a switch and an emergency power supply there comes

Speaker:

[DE] an IP node everywhere

Speaker:

[DE] with a switch

Speaker:

[DE] and an emergency power supply.

Speaker:

[DE] There comes emergency power,

Speaker:

[EN] emergency power so we just need power it's much more energy or inefficient i would say and it's

Speaker:

[DE] so we just need power.

Speaker:

[DE] It's much more energy

Speaker:

[DE] or inefficient, I would say.

Speaker:

[DE] And it's simply a huge effort.

Speaker:

[EN] simply a huge effort additionally with ip communication a direct line of sight is usually

Speaker:

[DE] Additionally, with IP communication,

Speaker:

[DE] a direct line of sight

Speaker:

[DE] is usually necessary in most cases.

Speaker:

[EN] necessary in most cases and with lora we didn't quite have that we just have much better propagation

Speaker:

[DE] And with LoRa,

Speaker:

[DE] we didn't quite have that.

Speaker:

[DE] We just have much better

Speaker:

[DE] propagation conditions.

Speaker:

[EN] conditions and

Speaker:

[DE] And I would say the big advantage

Speaker:

[EN] i would say the big advantage is not having the cost and energy issues

Speaker:

[DE] is not having the cost

Speaker:

[DE] and energy issues.

Speaker:

[EN] may i briefly ask how much did you approximately pay for the whole project and how many people does

Speaker:

[DE] May I briefly ask,

Speaker:

[DE] how much did you approximately pay

Speaker:

[DE] for the whole project

Speaker:

[DE] and how many people does it cover?

Speaker:

[EN] it cover that's a good question who paid for it initially i paid for it i sponsored it with

Speaker:

[DE] That's a good question.

Speaker:

[DE] Who paid for it initially?

Speaker:

[DE] I paid for it.

Speaker:

[DE] I sponsored it with my company initially.

Speaker:

[EN] my company initially that's hard to say so one router costs only just the hardware without an

Speaker:

[DE] That's hard to say.

Speaker:

[DE] So one router costs only

Speaker:

[DE] just the hardware

Speaker:

[DE] without an antenna,

Speaker:

[EN] antenna without everything else about 80 euros and with everything included per location you might be

Speaker:

[DE] without everything else,

Speaker:

[DE] about 80 euros.

Speaker:

[DE] And with everything included per location,

Speaker:

[DE] you might be, I don't know,

Speaker:

[EN] i don't know between 200 300 400 euros and

Speaker:

[DE] between 200, 300, 400 euros.

Speaker:

[DE] And yes, it was only possible

Speaker:

[EN] yes it was only possible through many sponsorships and then it was said the electrician hey will

Speaker:

[DE] through many sponsorships.

Speaker:

[DE] And then it was said,

Speaker:

[DE] the electrician, hey,

Speaker:

[DE] will provide you with the lift

Speaker:

[EN] provide you with the lift and and and that's how it works when everything functions hand in hand

Speaker:

[DE] and that's how it works

Speaker:

[DE] when everything functions hand in hand.

Speaker:

[EN] that's quite nice then and um yes and then you can maybe calculate it we then equip new locations

Speaker:

[DE] That's quite nice then.

Speaker:

[DE] And yes,

Speaker:

[DE] and then you can maybe calculate it.

Speaker:

[DE] We then equipped new locations with it

Speaker:

[EN] with it and we also have tour mobile devices that we can set up if something fails somewhere

Speaker:

[DE] and we also have TauMobile devices

Speaker:

[DE] that we can set up

Speaker:

[DE] if something fails somewhere.

Speaker:

[EN] and exactly the end devices that the users yes use that should perhaps be mentioned briefly

Speaker:

[DE] And exactly the end devices

Speaker:

[DE] that the users,

Speaker:

[DE] yes,

Speaker:

[DE] use,

Speaker:

[DE] that should perhaps be mentioned briefly.

Speaker:

[EN] we have administrative

Speaker:

[DE] We have administrative assistants

Speaker:

[EN] systems who are basically trained to use the network the devices look like a small blackberry

Speaker:

[DE] who are basically trained

Speaker:

[DE] to use the network.

Speaker:

[DE] The devices look like a small BlackBerry

Speaker:

[DE] and it's a TitiGo,

Speaker:

[EN] and it's a titigo lilly go t deck plus that means we have a touch screen we have a keyboard on it

Speaker:

[DE] LiliGo, T-Deck Plus.

Speaker:

[DE] That means we have a touchscreen,

Speaker:

[DE] we have a keyboard on it

Speaker:

[DE] and also a battery

Speaker:

[EN] and also a battery and they are trained to use it and these devices we have i must admit 12 14 of

Speaker:

[DE] and they are trained to use it.

Speaker:

[DE] And these devices,

Speaker:

[DE] we have, I must admit,

Speaker:

[DE] 12, 14 of them

Speaker:

[EN] them and they were also sponsored by the local company ets light that's how it simply works

Speaker:

[DE] and they were also sponsored

Speaker:

[DE] by the local company,

Speaker:

[DE] ETS Light.

Speaker:

[DE] That's how it simply works.

Speaker:

[DE] Our mayor, Tobias Kruger,

Speaker:

[EN] our mayor tobias kruger and then we then sound back is my uncle a bakaba approached the company's

Speaker:

[DE] was in Redan,

Speaker:

[DE] Sampark is my uncle,

Speaker:

[DE] approached the companies very directly

Speaker:

[EN] very directly and we worked well with them bizarrely in since that they were all very open

Speaker:

[DE] and we worked well with them.

Speaker:

[DE] They were all very open

Speaker:

[EN] and understood the seriousness of the situation i would say and said this is not about placing a

Speaker:

[DE] and understood the seriousness

Speaker:

[DE] of the situation, I would say,

Speaker:

[DE] and said,

Speaker:

[DE] this is not about placing a park bench somewhere,

Speaker:

[EN] park bench somewhere but rather about life and death in the worst case isn't this have you ever

Speaker:

[DE] but rather about life and death

Speaker:

[DE] in the worst case.

Speaker:

[DE] Have you ever tested or practiced

Speaker:

[EN] tested or practiced how the whole thing works in an emergency or did you just set it up and then

Speaker:

[DE] how the whole thing works in an emergency

Speaker:

[DE] or did you just set it up

Speaker:

[DE] and then say, okay, it will work?

Speaker:

[EN] say okay it will work actually it was set up because we said we have reached the point in

Speaker:

[DE] Actually, it was set up

Speaker:

[DE] because we said we have reached the point

Speaker:

[DE] in the exercise,

Speaker:

[EN] the exercise we had on the 20th 27th of october or september i don't even know it's been a

Speaker:

[DE] we had on the 20th, 27th of October

Speaker:

[DE] or September, I don't even know.

Speaker:

[DE] It's been a while.

Speaker:

[EN] while there was also a lot of stress a very very large disaster protection exercise yes simulated

Speaker:

[DE] There was also a lot of stress,

Speaker:

[DE] a very, very large disaster protection exercise.

Speaker:

[DE] Yes, simulated, conducted

Speaker:

[EN] conducted throughout the entire community of melancy and the scenario was hey we have a

Speaker:

[DE] throughout the entire community of Mellon Sea.

Speaker:

[DE] And the scenario was,

Speaker:

[DE] hey, we have a problem,

Speaker:

[EN] problem something happened a natural event and it's causing our infrastructure to gradually

Speaker:

[DE] something happened, a natural event

Speaker:

[DE] and it's causing our infrastructure

Speaker:

[DE] to gradually collapse.

Speaker:

[EN] collapse and yes then we just tested what happens if you cut the power at the town hall

Speaker:

[DE] And yes, then we just tested

Speaker:

[DE] what happens if you cut the power

Speaker:

[DE] at the town hall.

Speaker:

[EN] what happens if the internet goes down and what happens when the fire department um yes

Speaker:

[DE] What happens if you cut the power

Speaker:

[DE] and what happens if the internet goes down?

Speaker:

[DE] And what happens when the fire department

Speaker:

[DE] no longer has its radio

Speaker:

[EN] no longer has its radio and then at some point only our own local mesh tastic solution was left

Speaker:

[DE] and then at some point

Speaker:

[DE] only our own local mesh-tastic solution

Speaker:

[DE] was left?

Speaker:

[EN] and that was yes quite exciting to practice when there are somehow 400 participants involved and

Speaker:

[DE] And that was quite exciting to practice

Speaker:

[DE] when there are somehow 400 participants involved

Speaker:

[DE] and all kinds of aid organizations

Speaker:

[EN] all kinds of aid organizations from the fire department to emergency services the federal

Speaker:

[DE] from the fire department

Speaker:

[DE] to emergency services,

Speaker:

[DE] the Federal Agency for Technical Relief,

Speaker:

[EN] agency for technical relief rescue dogs and so on it was already um very very demanding i would say

Speaker:

[DE] rescue dogs and so on.

Speaker:

[DE] It was already very, very demanding, I would say.

Speaker:

[DE] Do you feel ready for the future?

Speaker:

[EN] do you feel ready for the future with it i would say we feel so you hear verlob when people say wow

Speaker:

[DE] I would say we feel

Speaker:

[DE] so you hear Verlaub when people say

Speaker:

[DE] wow, if anything happens, I'll go to the municipality

Speaker:

[EN] it's a very very difficult time to get to the municipality of melonsay because they realized

Speaker:

[DE] of Mellon Sea because they realized

Speaker:

[DE] hey, we are very, very progressive.

Speaker:

[EN] hey we are very very progressive i would also claim that we are almost the only municipality

Speaker:

[DE] I would also claim that we are

Speaker:

[DE] almost the only municipality in all of

Speaker:

[DE] Brandenburg, all of Germany

Speaker:

[EN] in all of brandenburg all of germany currently building on such concepts and i will just say

Speaker:

[DE] currently building on such concepts.

Speaker:

[DE] And I will just say quite confidently

Speaker:

[DE] this has been going pretty well

Speaker:

[EN] quite confidently this has been going pretty well for three or four months now and i would say we

Speaker:

[DE] for three or four months now and I would say

Speaker:

[DE] we are ready, yes.

Speaker:

[DE] Okay, Tom, do you have two more things?

Speaker:

[EN] are ready yes okay tom do you have two more things firstly a perspective from your point of view how

Speaker:

[DE] Firstly, a perspective from your point of view.

Speaker:

[DE] How do you perceive LoRaWAN?

Speaker:

[DE] Is it a business for the future, for the present?

Speaker:

[EN] do you perceive lorowan is it a business for the future for the present what's happening there from

Speaker:

[DE] What's happening there from your perspective right now?

Speaker:

[EN] your perspective right now so lorowan is i think very exciting i believe it definitely has a good

Speaker:

[DE] So LoRaWAN is, I think, very exciting.

Speaker:

[DE] I believe it definitely has a good future.

Speaker:

[EN] future we also have very good in some areas where we need it mobile networks 5g lte that is also

Speaker:

[DE] We also have very good

Speaker:

[DE] in some areas where we need it

Speaker:

[DE] mobile networks, 5G, LTE.

Speaker:

[DE] That is also working very well now.

Speaker:

[EN] working very well now but for all the small areas smart metering and where we simply want to be very

Speaker:

[DE] But for all the small areas, smart metering

Speaker:

[DE] and where we simply want to be

Speaker:

[DE] very energy efficient and implement a lot

Speaker:

[EN] energy efficient and implement a lot and send data capture switch i think it's really cool and i'm

Speaker:

[DE] and send data to the public.

Speaker:

[DE] I think it's really cool.

Speaker:

[DE] And I'm now hearing from everywhere

Speaker:

[EN] now hearing from everywhere that it's a business for the future and i think it's really cool and

Speaker:

[DE] gradually the municipalities

Speaker:

[EN] i'm now hearing from everywhere that it's a business for the future and i think it's really cool

Speaker:

[EN] gradually the municipalities also find it very exciting we can save we can optimize we might

Speaker:

[DE] also find it very exciting.

Speaker:

[DE] We can save, we can optimize,

Speaker:

[DE] we might even predict and prevent dangers.

Speaker:

[EN] even predict and prevent dangers and i think it will i don't know yet if it will really take off

Speaker:

[DE] And I think it will,

Speaker:

[DE] I don't know yet if it will really take off

Speaker:

[EN] in the next two or three years but i think in 10 years we will definitely have the municipalities

Speaker:

[DE] in the next two or three years,

Speaker:

[DE] but I think in 10 years we will definitely have

Speaker:

[DE] the municipalities to the point where they say

Speaker:

[EN] to the point where they say we all need this and it's just a standard like 5g and it's an

Speaker:

[DE] we all need this.

Speaker:

[DE] And it's just a standard like 5G

Speaker:

[DE] and it's an important thing.

Speaker:

[EN] important thing you can see it in switzerland in austria they are already quite ahead

Speaker:

[DE] You can see it in Switzerland,

Speaker:

[DE] in Austria, they are already quite ahead.

Speaker:

[EN] i don't know how germany will react i would

Speaker:

[DE] I don't know how Germany will react.

Speaker:

[DE] I would wish for it.

Speaker:

[EN] wish for it i think it's really cool we'll have to see yes you can actively contribute with tjk

Speaker:

[DE] I think it's really cool.

Speaker:

[DE] We'll have to see.

Speaker:

[DE] Yes, you can actively contribute with TJK.

Speaker:

[DE] What projects are you initiating now?

Speaker:

[EN] what projects are you initiating now do you already have something on your list

Speaker:

[DE] Do you already have something on your list?

Speaker:

[EN] anything exciting anything big yes i would say the most exciting thing for us is this

Speaker:

[DE] Anything exciting, anything big?

Speaker:

[DE] Yes, I would say the most exciting thing for us

Speaker:

[DE] is this smart village project

Speaker:

[EN] smart village project where we really say we are now going to equip an entire town with everything

Speaker:

[DE] where we really say we are now going to equip

Speaker:

[DE] an entire town with everything possible

Speaker:

[EN] possible from controlling the local lighting to capturing the indoor air quality in elementary

Speaker:

[DE] from controlling the local lights,

Speaker:

[DE] to capturing the indoor air quality

Speaker:

[DE] in elementary schools

Speaker:

[EN] schools

Speaker:

[DE] and what all adds to it

Speaker:

[EN] and what what all adds to it from parking space monitoring to somehow watering the city gardens

Speaker:

[DE] from parking space monitoring

Speaker:

[DE] to somehow watering the city gardens.

Speaker:

[EN] and i would say that is our biggest task and the biggest thing i am also involved in or what we are

Speaker:

[DE] And I would say that is our biggest task

Speaker:

[DE] and the biggest thing I am also involved in

Speaker:

[DE] or what we are also implementing

Speaker:

[EN] also implementing completely ourselves i am very curious about what will come of it and you will

Speaker:

[DE] completely ourselves.

Speaker:

[DE] I am very curious about what will come of it

Speaker:

[DE] and you will probably see a lot from us

Speaker:

[EN] probably see a lot from us on linkedin and on social media where we are also very active which

Speaker:

[DE] on LinkedIn and on social media

Speaker:

[DE] where we are also very active,

Speaker:

[DE] which I also enjoy a lot.

Speaker:

[EN] i also enjoy a lot i'm about to wrap up what is your absolute favorite sensor so far hmm that's a

Speaker:

[DE] I'm about to wrap up.

Speaker:

[DE] What is your absolute favorite sensor so far?

Speaker:

[DE] That's a good question.

Speaker:

[EN] i kind of grew up with level monitoring and find these devices quite exciting but if we also think

Speaker:

[DE] I kind of grew up with level monitoring

Speaker:

[DE] and find these devices quite exciting.

Speaker:

[DE] But if we also think about MeshTastic now,

Speaker:

[EN] about mesh testing now i find these new p1 outdoor routers very cool but um yeah i can't really say

Speaker:

[DE] I find these new P1 outdoor routers very cool.

Speaker:

[DE] But yeah, I can't really say for sure.

Speaker:

[EN] for sure i think everyone makes cool devices whether it's a camera sensor from my side or from

Speaker:

[DE] I think everyone makes cool devices,

Speaker:

[DE] whether it's a camera sensor from my side

Speaker:

[DE] or from SenseCap and something else or Tregino.

Speaker:

[EN] sense cap and something else or trigino well i think they are all pretty cool

Speaker:

[DE] Well, I think they are all pretty cool.

Speaker:

[DE] Each has its own area of application.

Speaker:

[EN] each has its own area of application and i can't just say that the

Speaker:

[DE] And I can't just say that the Tregino ultrasonic sensor

Speaker:

[EN] ultrasonic sensor is the coolest i think they are all pretty cool in their own way

Speaker:

[DE] is the coolest.

Speaker:

[DE] I think they are all pretty cool in their own way.

Speaker:

[EN] what can you as a young person who might have to speak with other entrepreneurs in the laura one

Speaker:

[DE] What can you, as a young person

Speaker:

[DE] who might have to speak with other entrepreneurs

Speaker:

[DE] in the LoRaWAN field, offer?

Speaker:

[EN] field offer so someone who is new to laura wan and you have a very young perspective what would

Speaker:

[DE] So someone who is new to LoRaWAN

Speaker:

[DE] and you have a very young perspective.

Speaker:

[DE] What would you advise someone

Speaker:

[EN] you advise someone who is starting to get involved with it i think the most important thing is these

Speaker:

[DE] who is starting to get involved with it?

Speaker:

[DE] I think the most important thing is these, yes, user stories.

Speaker:

[EN] yes user stories um what do people actually want to capture because i think the first problem is for

Speaker:

[DE] What do people actually want to capture?

Speaker:

[DE] Because I think the first problem is finding the problem

Speaker:

[EN] everybody to be able to get a feel for themselves because if they like you they will understand

Speaker:

[DE] you want to solve or optimize with it.

Speaker:

[DE] And I believe the most important thing

Speaker:

[EN] and understand how they can connect better and better with you they can also make it easier for

Speaker:

[DE] is to meet the right people

Speaker:

[DE] who can tell you what they want and need.

Speaker:

[DE] And that's so, I think the technology,

Speaker:

[EN] themselves and let you reach out to you know from your own perspective and i personally think that

Speaker:

[DE] you can get that with a lot of experience

Speaker:

[DE] and gradually you can learn and figure it out.

Speaker:

[EN] there's one thing i can say that i really missed when i was when i was a student

Speaker:

[DE] But the most important thing, I think,

Speaker:

[DE] is a good network and the right contacts.

Speaker:

[EN] it was online classes you know like attending good classes online classes i think you have to

Speaker:

[DE] How can you recognize a good contact person?

Speaker:

[DE] That's a good question.

Speaker:

[DE] I would say on expertise and on likability

Speaker:

[EN] be able to get the right experience in your life with good contacts and i think i think that that's

Speaker:

[EN] ability and on openness to new topics so it doesn't have to be an it nerd it's enough if

Speaker:

[DE] and on openness to new topics.

Speaker:

[DE] So it doesn't have to be an IT nerd.

Speaker:

[DE] It's enough if people are open to it and simply want it.

Speaker:

[EN] people are open to it and simply want it and then just talk about it and share the experiences

Speaker:

[DE] And then just talk about it and share the experiences.

Speaker:

[EN] from my side first of all thank you very much for taking the time to to talk about it and of course

Speaker:

[DE] From my side, first of all,

Speaker:

[DE] thank you very much for taking the time to talk about it.

Speaker:

[DE] And of course, best wishes on the LoRaWAN journey.

Speaker:

[EN] best wishes on the laura one journey you are the youngest i know so far who is involved in a laura

Speaker:

[DE] You are the youngest I know so far

Speaker:

[DE] who is involved in a LoRaWAN business

Speaker:

[EN] one business and perhaps also the youngest in this podcast so far so thank you tom for taking

Speaker:

[DE] and perhaps also the youngest in this podcast.

Speaker:

[DE] Thank you.

Speaker:

[DE] So thank you, Tom, for taking the time.

[EN] the business of laura when i built this for you the one person in about a hundred thousand who

Speaker:

[DE] I built this for you,

Speaker:

[DE] the one person in about 100,000

Speaker:

[DE] who actually has an interest

Speaker:

[EN] actually has an interest in how this tiny little slice of the world works of course this isn't just

Speaker:

[DE] in how this tiny little slice of the world works.

Speaker:

[DE] Of course, this isn't just about you and me.

Speaker:

[EN] about you and me it's about everyone in laura when and how we can work together to make an

Speaker:

[DE] It's about everyone in LoRaWAN

Speaker:

[DE] and how we can work together to make an exceptional thing.

Speaker:

[EN] exceptional thing laura when is a dispersed community with little pockets of knowledge

Speaker:

[DE] LoRaWAN is a dispersed community

Speaker:

[DE] with little pockets of knowledge all around the world.

Speaker:

[EN] all around the world and most of them don't talk to each other as much as i'd like so

Speaker:

[DE] And most of them don't talk to each other as much as I'd like.

Speaker:

[DE] So the first and best thing we can do to make this show better

Speaker:

[EN] the first and best

Speaker:

[EN] thing we can do to make this show better is to get more guests on who i don't even know exist

Speaker:

[DE] is to get more guests on

Speaker:

[DE] who I don't know.

Speaker:

[DE] When it comes to running down LoRaWAN guests,
